Aggressive Leopard Wrasse

Cantonesefish

with active cooling
Hello RC,

I have two female (initial phase) M. Meleagris that have recently been added to the display. Despite what I have researched about the species, the slightly larger one is behaving aggressively to the smaller one. She will rear up so that her body is vertically slanted when the other gets to close, and then chase for a few seconds.

They were both eating fozen food at the store, but with the bullying going on it seems the smaller one is not getting enough food to sustain herself for the long term. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

I have a Bipartus Leopard Wrasse and it has turned into the most territorial fish I have ever kept. It has killed numerous wrasses and picks on every small fish in the tank. I am unable to introduce new fish smaller then it because it terrorizes them to no end.
Yours may be going through the typical dominance process in order to determine a pecking order but this doesn't always turn out good for the other fish.

Yes, I remember your thread about the bipartus wrasse. I've moved the aggressive one to the refugium, and already the one in the main display is coming out and looking better. I will probably give the aggressive one to the LFS.

I have found that leopards dont mix well! I have tried it a few times. I had a black that didnt like a bipartus and killed it. Then when my black leopard jumped, I got an ornate and bipartus at the same time, but the ornate still killed the bipartus. I dont think they should be mixed....jsut what I have found out atleast!!
