Agressive chromis

I have six, (3)of which I have had probably for two years. Two are really large, and seem to be chasing my newly added two ocellaris around. Is this normal? I'm thinking of taking the two big ones out and giving them away?? The six have always gotten along- they know their pecking order among themselves!

That's a falacy- as I said they are getting along among themselves(for a long time).

You've been lucky. It's not uncommon for chromis to whittle their own numbers down to one or two, even if they've been getting along for a while. Remember, they are closely related to damsels (and, hence, clownfish), which means that they're relatively aggressive, and they're likely to be more so to closely related fishes.

I thought I lucked out too with my 3 chromis. I added them 26 months ago. 1 must have been chased out of the tank last week. I found him behind the stand.

My question is- has anyone had their blue-green chromis not get along with other fishes?

Yes, I've had them beat on just about everything around their size or smaller.

Happily, mine are all settled down now- I guess they were just getting to know who's who! What did you do with your chromis?

I am down to 4 blue/green chromis again. They have always been passive with other fish, but they are fairly aggressive towards each other. I started with 6 chromis, twice.

I think people don't realize how large some of these damsel/chromis actually get. Most people see them in LFS where they're about the size of a nickel or quarter but don't realize that they can easily reach 5"- 8"+ and become very aggressive. I have a very large damsel in my tank and most people ask what it is and they're stun when I tell them that it's a damsel.
