AI 52 for my Elos

I am looking to get a new LED fixture to put over my Elos System 120.

Length: 46"
Width: 22"
Depth: 20"

This setup will be SPS dominated with a minimal design regarding rockwork.
I probably will only use a max of 32" in length to place corals.

Considering also the depth of only 20" could I use only one Hydra Fifty Two or wouldn't this be enough.

Would two regular Hydra an option?

Thanks for any input

For aesthetic reasons as you look at the overall setup how high are you willing to put the light above your tank?

I think what you're wanting to do here is indeed doable, however it's going to look "spotlight" on your setup, meaning the ends of the tank, even with the light high above, are going to be much more dim than what the middle lit area will be. Personally, I think 2 x Hydra would be a better option than a single Hydra Fifty Two.

Let me know on the question above.

Thank you for the quick reply Jeremy.

I would go any height required. So what would you suggest?

I know it is not all PAR numbers but if I am correct and look at the Hydra PAR numbers the max is around 200? Would that be enough for SPS? Or let's say what makes the Hydra suitable for SPS leaving the PAR out of the picture?

Thanks
Michael

If you could go about 16" - 18" above the tank then you could spread it out enough to make it work. You'll have enough par dispersed through the areas you plan on keeping your corals at for them to thrive just fine. The only issue, which might not bother you at all, is that you'll have the ends of this tank be very dim. It will look like a spotlight above your tank. If you don't mind the look, then you'll be just fine.

I think 36" x 24" would be just fine for you on coverage at about 10" - 12" up. You will want to run the module parallel to the front of the tank for this. The ends will taper off just a bit in intensity, but you'll still have more than enough light output everywhere in that footprint.
