AI Hydra Settings Thread

I have 3 Hydra 52 above a 180.
Current settings are
R & G 15
RB 100
DB 100
V 80
UV 40
W 30
I am satisfied with growth and coral reactions but would like to bring out more red in some of the corals.

How would you recommend adjusting to get more red?

I would also try lowering the V from 80% to maybe 40% and see what that does if lowering the UV don't help.

At night my lights are at Red 3% percent deep blue 3% and whites at 1%. According to an article I read a while back all spectrums should be at 1 percent because moonlight is sunlight reflected. Idk if it's true but I might try it. As of now I have my weather set to Bali, Malaysia, and it's cloudy for most of the day. I might leave it on, if a ton of corals are there than I don't see why they can't adapt to natural weather.

How's my current program? Any suggestions?

Also, what does ramp time mean?

I recently read a thread about research on how red light inhibits the corals photossinthesys capacity, can't find the link but am sure you here have read it. How much red light do corals really need? How about green, UV? LED companies don't produce any research results on facts but I see a lot of our own taste tips which in turn might not be ideal to the corals...
I know with led lights we have to play with their settings to get to the proper intensities that works best for each other's tanks. Thing is how many people here want to play with red, uv leds, which could bleach or turn their corals downhil on "such trials"?
I recently bought a third hydra 26 and I see these things are getting more and more powerful...
Getting to the point, what really is the ideal %'s of reds, UV's, and V's I should have at a minimum for an all LpS tank? I have been keeping my fixtures hung at 16" above water, with whites at 10%, B+RB at 60%, Greens at 15%.
I'm a believer on LeDs by the way, and think the hydras are the real deal.

I'm a little bit confused by your color settings, as well as the article on moonlight being sunlight reflected back. Moonlight is moonlight and it's the different phases of the moon which are most important for coral and fish spawning. Now about your settings, are you ramping down over 3 hours and running from 12am to 12 pm with UV at 60%?

Great article! Make perfect sense since the moon is not burning star like the sun and when there is a lunar eclipse we can't see the moon. Very interesting about the spectrum and funny they talk about pocillipora spawning as that is the one coral I have growing in about 5 different places in my tank even though I only placed it in one spot. I guess it's been spawning. .lol

Is there a way to manually turn on the hydras? My controller stopped working and I need to get some light on the corals! Been 5 days :(.. Was away on a trip

UV 35
Violet 75
Blues 100
Green/red 5
White 30
Clouds 20% probability 10% intensity
3 hr ramp time
location timers on
real time weather off

I just replaced an EVO 150 LED with a Hydra FiftyTwo and I am using the above settings with 40% acclimation over 8 weeks. It's currently 8" above the water, but I think I am going to need to raise it to 12" as both ends of my tank (36x18x24) are pretty shadowed. Using Majuro, Marshall Islands for location timers. So far, my corals are liking it.

Where is there a red button? Next to the power supply on it there is a button but that's all I see. I ended up getting the controller to find the lights finally.. Phew!

It's right next to where the power supply plugs into the light. It's just a small red push button.

Chercm that would be up,to you. The settings may need to be adjusted to your tank. Lighting is only one aspect of the color of you corals. If you are going to make changes make small changes. From the pics your corals look good.
