AI Hydra Settings Thread

You do not have to dial them way back, you just can not turn them full blast from the get go.

According to Justin with AI, on a 90 gallon tank, I would have to dial them way back compared to the regular Hydra not in terms of acclimation, but permanently.

What kind of corals are you keeping? Your 90 and my 60 cube are the same height. I have mine dialed back very little. My tank is mostly SPS and a few LPS, but they are all on the bottom. No burnt tips, no bleaching, even the LPS like the light. Either I am just plain lucky or our understating of how to operate these lights is not fully formed. I think it is the second.

Now if you are keeping LPS and softies, turning it down may be the right approach. IMO the levels people take it is kind of extreme.

Mostly SPS 5-8 inches or so below the water surface in my tank.

A couple LPS and a few softies on the sand bed.

65g 36x24x24 and I have the lights 8" above the water line and corals 6" or less below the water with lights at 100% across the all colors and everything is great.

A few posts back, this is what I was asking about - NOT Cyberdude's post.

You had 100 percent on ALL colors??

For how long?

In these pictures, are all colors set to 100 percent, because this looks nothing what my Hydra's look like on 100 percent everything?

This makes no sense.

I use hydra 52 and the colors are equal percentage at 70% total if this helps. I have 2 hr ramp up and ramp down for a total of 4 hrs of ramp time and 10 hrs of 70% so total length of lights on is 14hrs.
The hydra and the hydra 52 are totally different look, I have both on 2 separate tanks

The hydras are set all colors at 100 percent and lights are set to corribian mode on light cycle so don't know how many hrs. If I had to guess it would be 10hr total

YA, but in that picture, you can see the reflection of the pucks, they are the regular Hydra's.

If I run my Hydra's anywhere near 100 on all channels, it looks terrible, washed out and staggeringly bright white.

NOTHING like that picture you posted with the regular Hydra's.

Thanks guys.

Sonic, are you still running the same settings - whites at 25?

My Current settings:

UV Night: 0 Day: 25
Violet Night: 0 Day: 70
Deep Blue Night: 5 Day: 100
Royal Blue Night: 0 Day: 100
Green Night: 0 Day: 5
Deep Red Night: 0 Day: 5
Cool White Night: 0 Day: 35

Those are definitely standard Hydra's, not 52's, they could be dimmed however depending on the time of day or if he is using weather and it is cloudy.

Thanks bud, are you still running 3 hour ramps and 5 hour at full?

Hey guys, not sure if this is the correct thread to post or not but I have 3 Vegas coming in on Friday. I'm replacing my 3ft led light from Led Zeal. I think I'm going to start off with 2 Vegas then add the third if needed. My tank is 48x24x16 and the lights will be about 1ft above water. I was wondering what settings you guys think I should start off with?

Set the lights to what you like the look of, then use acclimatisation over the next 6-8 weeks or so.
Every tank is different, so search this thread for idea's.
Don't put UV too high.

I move them around from 5 to 15 throughout the year, red has been debated over and over about causing algae but it really is caused by too many nutrients or hi iron from dosing.
