AI Hydra Settings Thread

52 for sure. You can always dim down, regular hydra is maxed out and you may want more. 120 extra bones now will save you from a 300 dollar upgrade if you decide to want more

True, penny wise dollar foolish. Just want to make sure they can support SPS. There are a lot of LED haters out there.

I hate how the hydra 52 upgrade costs so much. $299 EACH light. Why?! If I'm spending $600 I want new, not just partially new. LOL

Why? Because you are buying 52 LEDs, a power supply, Fan and motherboard.
Keep in mind buying new gives you a full year warranty as well, not just 90 days..

Wasn't happy either. But 300 for new light is better than 600. And I don't feel like I wasted my money with sols. (after seeing totm thus month, I wonder if I should have upgraded at all) but if you can find used sols for 150 ish you just got a hydra 52 for 450 new. They used to sell heats inks for 100 bux from ai as part of the white bla k conversion kit. That didn't last long lol

I haven't been keep track of this site lately but I came back on to see if anyone was having issues with there hydras still like I am and it almost seems as though everyone has since upgraded to 52's. I was thinking that the led's them selves maybe since there different ones I wouldn't have the issues. it seems like I finally get my whites up to 33% and not only can I not go higher but things start bleaching and browning out. just frustrating.

I have just upgraded to a 150 gallon shallow tank and was running AI Sol Blues on my old 55. I used the upgrade kit to upgrade my existing 2 units and bought a third Hydra52. Awesome lights.....I love them...great growth, so much control. People sometimes say that there is too much control with LEDs and it can be hard to 'zone them in' to the right setting, I just run mine on 14k and they work very well! If you have an Apex then they are even better!!

The other option is to sell ur current Hydra and pay the difference for the a new Hydra 52. You will have a brand new and fully warranty unit. This way, it is still cheaper than getting a Hydra 52 upgrade kit.

is there an equivalent to MH spectrum tables out there, eg set your ideal channels at X %, would look similar to a Hamilton 14K, XM 20K or a Megachrome 13K?

Realize the wattage, bulbs type (SE/DE) and ballasts were also variables with MHs.

@kenpau - what UI is that? Is that the Apex UI for the Hydra? I'd love to be able to just choose the LED combinations by color temperature, but the Director doesn't give me that.
