AI Hydra Settings Thread

With AI they recommend the lights at 5% at night. The issue is that Im not use to tjat setting as moon lights. Im use to blue light, what do you guys set as moonlights?

You have to be at 5% or more to get the full lunar cycle because of how they calculate power on the cycle. I have mine lower since I found 5% to be to bright. I end up with a few extra days of total darkness.

My new hydra can't keep time!

I have a Hydra 52 w/"new" style controller. I have set the time 3 different times and every day when I get home from work around 5:00pm the time on the controller says 10:45am.

Do I have to leave the controller plugged in all the time?

Yes must stay plugged in

That explains it! I really don't need anything else to plug in.

It can however, be plugged in on the other side of the room and still work (usually).

You could put it in a console or next to your cell phone charging station or something....although I would be afraid of some clueless family member or visitor picking it up and unplugging it to plug in their phone or walking off with it or some other stupidity event.

For what ever reason I was under the impression that the controller was only used to program the light and once the light was programmed you where done with the controller until you needed to adjust/program the light again.

Unfortunatly the controller controls everything... basically the brains of the lights. I thought that I didnt need anything but the lights, untill I tried to use the lights

Look at the bright side...a failed firmware update only kills a $79.00 remote while leaving a $500 light unharmed....

That is a "glass half full" way of looking at it! Lol

Every time I have to do an apex firmware update it is basically the equivalent of war ship battle drill.....

I have finally stopped even using my network and do the direct PC to apex network connection. Its such a PITA...... I'm having an electrician run cat5 from my fish room to my office on the second floor just so I can grab the Ethernet cable out of my router and plug it directly into my PC for firmware updates.

I was actually relieved to learn the lights had no internal firmware or programming.....

switching from Kessil A160we to Hydra 26 help with intensity

switching from Kessil A160we to Hydra 26 help with intensity

Hey guys, it was time I upgraded my lights on our 40g IM Fusion. Looking for some advice on setting up the fixture since the difference between these two fixture par output are completely different. Was running the Kessil A160WE at 100 % the whole 8 hours and lps/sps's were seeing 60-80 par (yes I know its crazy low). This Hydra 26 at 60 percent the same corals are seeing 120-160 par. Now i know everyone says par shouldn't be used to measure intensity but i'm wondering if these are that damn powerful. Also a dear friend of mine swears by these lights and i've seen his results which are pretty impressive what interesting is he only runs the CW's for an hour or 2 during the day that its, his sps or any corals he puts under them grows like weeds! Any help and thoughts would be great on starting out, not sure if anyone is willing to share there AIP file as well. I've found some files shared on line but I notice its not easy to shift the whole program related to start and end time. Looking forward in becoming AI sps gold soon.:love2:

Yes these lights are just that powerful, if you go through the thread, it seems like every few pages someone is sharing their settings, I am probably going to be getting a Hydra 26 for my 40 breeder frag tank and will probably run it at a fraction of what I have the DT, something like,

CW 5
UV 2
Blue's 40
Red green violet 5

See how that works for you and adjust according to corals
