AI Hydra Settings Thread

New addition :)

I red that article a while ago. Interesting. Since it affect styloporas so far do you think it has the same effect on acros? Or is the structure of the styloporas being more open than acros.

Good question, not sure if it relates to acros, but kind of an sps generalization. Just in case someone has some stylos and wondering why they are growing slowly. Might help.

I am finding that white @ 35% seems to be a sweet spot. I have also seen success with UV and Violet at the 30%-40% range. I saw negative effects increasing violet.
I have blues under 80% also and seeing good success.

just an FYI if you have the cloud setting on - the thunderstorm will not work (bug) the only time they work is if you use the geo location.

I have finally received the director after weeks of waiting for it on back order. I ended up canceling my order from one store and reordered it from BRS. My tank has been under two hydras for around one month and the coral acclimation has ended. I am noticing significant green hair algae where there was none before. I currently have my lights set up as:

I have been modifying them a little as I go but not anything significant. Mostly based on others users experiences in this thread. Thanks to all for their input.

I do like the look of the lights on the tank but I am not happy with this hair algae outbreak. With red and green at 10% I was hoping not to encounter this. I have an 1150gph and 500gph powerhead at one end of the tank and two 750gph powerheads at the other. They alternate end to end every 30 seconds. My water parameters are:

So far I also like the directors additional control it provides. Does the director not perform sweeping cloud cover yet??

I have had great success with these lights for a little over a month now. Starting last Friday, I came home from work and my glass was covered with algae so bad you could barely see into the tank. Since then I have lowered my light settings and I cannot seem to get it under control. I am cleaning a great deal of algae off my glass 2 times a day. Any advice? I have also added PhosGuard to my filter, per a recommendation of service company.

Did you confirm this with AI? I have my thunderstorm and clouds turned on and regional weather turned off and I have had thunderstorms.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have moved my Blues down to 70, red and green to 5 and uv and violet to 30.

I may try a two day lights out to see if that helps jump start the fix.

Anyone run a UAS? Does it help?

Good to know I was told by ai customer support I had to shut off my clouds to get the thunderstorm effect.
I will try this weekend

Are you able to adjust the light so less spills on the glass.
Your nutrient s are probably higher using gfo will help.look into vinegar dosing, I only clean my glass once a week

I cannot adjust my lights so they do not hit my glass. I am using the tank mounting brackets AI sells. The lights run front to back, by design of the brackets. With a standard 55 gallon tank, the lights are about as long as the tank is wide.

Please forgive me if I've missed a lot, this thread is long. I'm trying to get some info on the hydra with using the wireless controller. Is there anything I should be aware of or fearful of not working? Will I need to update the controller out of the box for it to work, and if so, how do I do that? Any other advice anyone can lend? I like the price point and the ability to completely customize the light and the diversity of diodes they contain. They seem more fitting for me as I do not have a laptop and I do not want to have to use a computer program to use them and customize them even if I did.

I'm a newb at this and I really could use some advice about just about anything. With that said, I will spend the rest of my nite reading this thread and whatever else I can find on the hydras and wireless controller.

Thanks, Neal.

The wireless controller is easy to set up and use. I set up the timers manually which was no big deal and is probably even easier using the auto setup. I played with the storm modes etc but basically operate it vanilla. Easy to switch between auto and manual modes and back

I thought I would throw this out there, my lfs (premium aquatics), runs Hydras over one of their frag tanks and I was told that they run them at 100%. It looks like an 18" deep tank and the lights were around 24" +/-above the water. I may be off a little on the measurements but I was surprised at the intensities.

Because the light are so high they need that much power If I remember correctly for every 4" you lose 20% power. Will have to ruble check that but it is a high lose of power.

Where in Indy are you from? I am from Carmel.

We live in Plainfield but we are considering moving in the very near future. I do not want to move further from work but all the areas we are interested in are further away. We have actually been considering making a big change and relocating to the Tampa bay area ( if anyone knows of any opportunities there, lol).

I have AI 52's with a director and cannot figure out how to get the lighting function to come on. I loved this feature at the store but cant get it to work.
I have tried multiple combinations without success.

Anyone have any blights for a DIY hanger/mounting? Anyone know the screw/bolt size that the hanging and mounting kits from the manufacturer, size are? The ones that secure into the module itself?

It would be a big help ;)
