AI Hydra Settings Thread

not sure, maybe you need to have one before the other? once it's done reboot it and see if it pulls the next one.

Gave that a try and I'll try shutting down my computer later and see if that works. If not, I'm sure the update will be detected down the line.

On a side note, I purchased two of the Hydra 52 upgrade kits last Thursday for my Vega units and the excitement of waiting for the UPS truck to show up at the house, is a little overwhelming right now.

Have a good evening,
Randy

kinda makes me want to upgrade too, but the tank is doing so well dont want to rock the boat and only running at 65% maybe when i get to 100% i will upgrade.

So have the problems with the director been cleared up with the new software updates? These issues have been holding me back from buying the Hydra's and the director. Sonic do you know if the lights would work the same with the apex or would the director be the best way to go?.

FYI sold a Hydra to a guy that is having problems connecting to the Apex AWM.
don't know what the details are yet will let you know.

Since the last update everything looks to be working correctly. It really seemed like there was too much load on the servers, since last night I can open the director page almost instantly opposed to 3-4 minutes. Settings are correctly saving, everything else has worked in the past.

Realistically, my current Vega color units are more then adequate, but the combination of having UV and Violet LED's along with 32 additional LED's, is a no brainer to me.

I look at the upgrade like this, when I first bought my AI Vega's, each LED bulb in the Vega unit cost around $24.95 each. If you calculate the cost of the Hydra 52 upgrade, each LED bulb will cost $5.77 each.

Some are complaining about the Hydra 52 upgrade cost, but I find the cost fair and reasonable for what we are receiving in hardware and the long term benefits for my reef tank.

Even though I originally purchased my two Vega's for $1000.00 not including tax and with using my Vega's for around 547 days so far, the per day purchase cost for my Vega's is $1.82. That's not even the cost for a cup of coffee at Starbucks every day.

In the end, as long as our corals and fish are healthy and happy, that's all that really counts.

Have a great morning,
Randy

Ps. I forgot that we have to keep our wives happy as well

So do you think the director would be the better way to control the lights or would the apex be able to do the same aspects as the director?. I'm asking this cause I have the apex already.

New Setting!!. I more or less mimicked roberto's setting , since he is having such good results with them. here they are

I have had the hydras running for awhile now and cant seem to find decent settings for my lps- i have my sps at the top and they love the light, iv tried raising my lights from the tank, putting them in complete shade. anyone here haveing good success with there lps long term with hydras? i know lps dont really like leds for some reason when comparing them to t-5 but they loved being directly under 400w halides with no problems.

I have A hammer that started with one head and now has five heads in the middle of the tank not shaded at all. using the setting that most are here.

Hey guys will the awm ever have the same options as the director ?
Like the moon light calendar and charts with the awm costing more you would think make it better. Or I might have to switch I love the director options.

I know this is probably on here somewhere but I don't feel like looking through 56 pages what settings do I need for the moon phases to work, controller not director

more than 5% on any channel u want to use . I do 5%db and 1% uv. I used this both when I had my controller and now with my director

IMO I Don't think so, AI does it to sell lights Apex does it to make the light work with its system nothing in it for them.

Useing the awm set led DB to 1% and 100% intensity will not turn on but will on 2%.
Why is this ?

Don't know if it will work but try doing it the other way. 100% and 1% intensity. I have my DB on my Vegas set for 100% DB and 2% intensity.

I tested my Vegas with 100% DB and 1% intensity and they worked.

(I have the AWM)

Well I have made some changes on my lights and I'll share with you now. This is the most effective and I noticed increased coloration and growth after that.

UV light helps the growth a lot. That's what I have noticed but with caution because it will fry your corals fast so I have now 5 lightning periods:

1) Sunrise

CW: 10
NW: 0
WW: 0
UV: 20
Violet: 100
DB: 100
RB: 100
Red: 10
Green: 10
Overal intensity: 80%
60min ramp

2 hours period

2) Mid Day 1 (High UV)

CW: 70
NW: 0
WW: 0
UV: 100
Violet: 100
DB: 100
RB: 100
Red: 30
Green: 30
Overal intensity: 80%
1 min ramp

2 hours period

3) MidDay 2 (low UV)

Same settings as the midday1 but only 20% UV and CW at 50%
5 hours period

4) Sun Down
Same as the sunrise but no white and reverse ramp (120 min reverse ramp)

2 hours period

5) Moon

All zero but DB: 1%, RB: 1%

I'm using this for 2 weeks now and the improvement on the colors and growth is really better then my previous settings.

Reading thru this whole thread, I am curious as to how far Roberto has his lights above the water. thanks
