AI Hydra Settings Thread

Really beautiful tank! Interesting that it looks like you don't have algae from running your red and green higher (since many other people have said it caused more algae for them).

Thanks! No problems now w algae although I did have a small issue before but it was due to higher phosphates. No issues now. Still an ongoing experiment finding the perfect percentages.

there is no specific height per tank per light. each tank is unique so start with what keeps the light inside your tank and adjust intensities accordingly.

Is there a way on the basic white controller to set two on and off times? I would like my blues to come on in the morning for a few hours while I am getting ready for work etc... but then to go off and come on for the scheduled cycle later in the day... possible?

I wonder if I need another unit to keep SPS corals?

I have a 37 gallon tank, dimensions 30 long by 12.5 deep by 22 high. I have 1 AI Hydra unit about 8 inches off the surface. The last couple of months I got my nitrates in check.

You shouldn't need another unless you plan on having sps on the edges of your tank.

Hello
On SPS Leds hydras works growth?

I think so. I run a single hydra 52 on a 60 cube. I have a tank thread where I post 3 month updates. I just posted my 6 month since first coral pics. You can look through and see the growth I am getting. Keep in mind some things have been in there much less than 6 months. The M. Caps have been in there for just a few weeks.

The yellow milli (coral on left in pic) was three nubs all the size of the short one when I got it 5 or so months ago. For some reason one decided not to grow.

Oh yeah these things grow SPS.

This purple stag started out as just a frag. Spent the first part of its life under SOL Blues and now is really growing fast under Hydra 52's. Notice the white tips of new growth.

This Tri-Color Acro is about 7" tall by 5" across and is growing really well too:

I have been really impressed with the way everything has colored up and how much the growth rate has increased on all my SPS. Obvious growth on all tips colonies and polyp extension too. The SOL Blues did the job too but everything was so blue. I am really digging the full spectrum. Seeing all kinds of colors in my chalices and acros that I didn't even know were there. I am at 60% max on my main colors with red and green at 40% and UV at 30% and that seems to be a good mix for my tank. 10" above the water with great spread.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to programmable LED world. I have a 48" x 26" x 26.5" tank. I recently purchased 3 AI Hydras, and have them installed on an Apex controller, they are also hanging over the tank on the AI Sol 48" rails, not very far off the surface, maybe 8". I plan on growing all types of corals in this tank and I am wondering what are some settings I should try out with this set up.

Attached is the only pic I have snapped of this setup just so you have an idea. It was taken at low light (2%) because I had just finished installing them at night.

Programming with the Apex is super easy, but here are the settings I have for max light which is 6 hours(80% power on the Apex). I know these aren't optimal, and it might even be too much, it's all greek to me though so any advice is appreciated.
