AI Hydra Settings Thread

How do you check for the fan and temp status on the Director? What is ur current setting on the cloud effect? I have never play around with it before. Thx.

Hi newe70, as previously stated, you just double click the light in the layout view. My clouds are managed by the weather settings.

just did a quick time lapse video of the clouds, then my phone rang and stopped the video...disregard the rocks walls, they are a work in progress and the sides for the center piece are curing.

Tank looks great man, perfect size tank imo, great aquascape.

How are the 52's going? I'm liking mine. Still using the same settings from the regular Hydra's but with the blue's toned down a little, working my way back up. Justin recommended this because there are so many more blue led's on the 52's.

Thanks!, I'm loving the 52 so far, the additional blue LEDs are exactly what I was looking for, aquascaping is a bit of a mess since I have been moving and removing rocks to add them to the rock wall.

You ever grow corals on the glass walls? I'm thinking about gluing a piece of monti to see what happens, which will be out of the direct light, probably a good thing for the monti.

It will grow, you might have to angle the light towards it but it will grow. One the right side of the left overflow you will see a red and green monti, it is growing with a vengeance towards the lights, the back side that gets no light doesn't grow.

So AI sent me all new boards and pucks!! Install went great, glad to have full compliment of blues..

I have been running blues and violet at 100% with no issues.. but now I added royal blue (was out) should I knock the numbers down some or what? Or just add the royal as I prefer?

If it were me I would either set the light where I wanted them and run a multi week acclimation or bump the royals up a little at a time until I got them where I wanted them. Take you time increasing and you can run them a lot higher than most people think.

Justin at AI recommended a 12 inch mounting height AWL for my 150 SPS tank (48x24x30) is that too high for 2 52's? I'm mounting them with the pucks running front to back as you look at the front of the tank with AI's mounting rails.

Haven't began to think about settings yet as I don't have anything living inside the tank yet.

12 inches is pretty standard to get you good coverage with 2 hydra on a 48 inch tank. I would start there and see how it looks to you. A lot depends on coral type and depth of corals

Only problem is I'm mounting the rails on the back of the tank so I'll only have 1 shot at getting the height right. My tank is 30 inches deep and I want to have LPS/Clams on the bottom and SPS in the mid to top areas. I'll go with 12 inches and hope it works the best because I probably won't be able to adjust them after they're installed.

Ok, I'm honestly lost. I've read to start low, then I see people running blues at 100%... I just want to find a point where I'm not frying my corals or having them brown out completely.... I'ev read all pages of this thread and have found at least four different starting points. Any help would be great.

I've got two 52's 9" over a 150DD. Running the following settings. Again, any help would be much appreciated. 3 hr ramp

UV - 40%
V - 40%
B/DB - 65%
RED/GRN - 35%
White - 30%

I would lower your UV to 20%, R/G to 15%. Then acclimatisation setting to something like this;
UV 35
V 60
Blues 90
R 20
G 30
W 40

All over a two month period

That looks really low to me. Your tank is deep. What are you keeping? I do not have my estimators spread sheet with me, but if I had to guess it looks like you are only putting out about 40% of what the fixture can do. I do not run anything below 70%.

Burning your corals is a valid concern with LED. It does not come for having them set to high power, but form setting them to high power with out doing a long acclimation. I initially did a 6 month ramp from 50% to 100% of what I run now. I have found that in my tank a 30% reduction and a two month ramp works when I add a coral. Also keep in mind the brighter you light the more you have to feed.

I'm keeping a few SPS, Zoas, acans, chalice and a pectina. Most of my corals are barely starting to open up and show PE. The tank is new and I've just moved these into it over the past few weeks.

So you have the settings on all colors >70%? How deep is your tank and what's the distance to the rock structure?

Yes all 70% or higher with most over 80%. My tank is 24" deep with the fixture 8" above he water. I never measured but if I had to guess the top of my reef is at around 8" below water and getting less as things grow.
