AI Hydra Settings Thread

What did you use for rock and sand when you did the tank swap?

I used the same rock, I purchased all new Tropic Eden sand. I also used as much water as I could from the 90, and made fresh salt water for the remainder needed.

The rock was transported in water - so there was never a mini-cycle or anything that I saw, the only thing that bounced around a bit was Alk, and even then only by 1.5 DKH, dont get me wrong that's a significant drop in 24 hours.

I run my salinity at 1.026 and use Salinity for my salt. I only dose Kalk via the auto top off and run carbon/GFO in a BRS Dual chamber reactor. I also run a bubble magnus skimmer. I had originally thought the lack of nutrients was my issue ... now I have nutrients, stable alk, all that good stuff - can't keep LPS and SPS. I have never seen a fish picking on any of the coral. I did pick up Red bugs about 6 months ago but that was quickly taken care of - and outside of the display tank. I have over looked each colony and never found a pest anywhere, even after bayer dips.

It's been a headache.

Hmmm, I've had some similar issues with SPS in my two month old tank.

I'm using two AI Primes at low settings, so don't think lighting is the issue.

I did however, also use Tropic Marine sand, Tonga MiniFlakes to be exact...

I have a mixture of tropic eden, a little bit of each size ... so far the sand has been great, I think.

I did notice that my alk is still kind of swinging around.. which is crazy to me because nothing in there aside from my Clam and snails should really be eating it away. Cal is at 420, Alk is at 10DKh, MG is around 1500 from what I can tell.

I'll keep testing. This has been just awful - I still don't think I have my lights configured correctly and of course I got home, started working on the tank and forgot to post my light numbers -.-

I am debating completely removing the Kalk - I feel like it's just making things unstable... but again I don't understand why at this point. I know Kalk can negatively impact MG.. maybe that's why?

Took some PAR readings today, left the sensor in the same spot and took various measurements. Measurements about half way down the tank and lights 12"AWL.

Good luck!

I have been running these numbers on my mr aqua 17 with a hydra 26 about 7in AWL. Schedule is 20k, 17.5k, 14k, 17.5K, 20k, night mode. I switched from sol blue so I have been in acclamation mode for 6 weeks ending on August 31st. any suggestions? I did add the violet led to match the blues and royal blues. Also if I have a manual "weekend blue setting" can I switch back and forth from manual to acclamation mode? And will it pick right back up where it left off? I have a gen 2 controller with the rubber buttons if that helps

Ok folks, just found something really cool that may help you. I am running the AI Prime, and have been using the iPhone app mostly for control. Recently, I began playing with the web interface, and have found some new added functionality, to include color temp settings!

First, a disclaimer. I am not an expert, in fact I'm a newbie. I don't work in the pet/aquarium/light industry. These settings are from the programming for the Prime, which may share some similarities with the Hydra series, or, may not. These settings may nuke your whole house.

When I switch control to manual, there's a little semi bullseye icon next to the sliders. If I click on that, it takes me to a screen where I can select the desired color temp and intensity by using just two sliders (one for temp, one for intensity)! How cool is that?

Now, please pardon the poor quality photos ahead, these are cell phone shots of my laptop screen, so they look funky.

Here is the screen where you can select color temp and intensity:

Now, I'll show you the settings (set by AI) for a range of color temps from 10k to 20k, all were done at 50% intensity. Here you go:

thanks so much for the picture. i noticed from the pic that one of the slider is always at 0 , what colour is that for ?

The slider at zero is definitely not one of the blue channels.

It's either Violet or UV, but I'm pretty sure violet. Like 95% sure.

I'm away from home on business, or I would check for sure.

They are great lights. Do not be afraid to turn them up, slowly. I ran a single over my 60 cube at 96%. I added a second and currently at 75% on both. No bleaching or anything. I just take my good sweet time raising the power. When I added the second I did a 45% reduction and a 4 month ramp. I plan on bringing them both back to 96%.

I went from Vegas to the Hydra 52s and did a real slow acclimation of four months. I am now at my target mix of:

UV: 30
V: 100
B: 100
RB: 100
G: 40
DR: 35
CW: 60

After switching to Hydra 52's and seeing good growth but inaccurate or poor coloration, I adjusted my intensities until I started seeing colors deepen or evolve into new colors. This is my current setup for Hydra 52's on a 24" deep tank and 8 1/2" AWL.

Thanks

If anyone wants to check out mine settings here they are, modified one another member posted and I have had great results. still tweaking the CW some though, and currently working on moving violet at UV up higher. I did a 2 month Acclimation after bleaching some initially when I switched from Kessil 360's. Everything has colored back up great now.
