AI Hydra Settings Thread

sadly there is no exact science to any setting on here. Since everyone's tank is different in some way or another, all I can say is start low and acclimate watching your corals, if they are frags then you can move the frags around.

Been making some minor adjustments, lowering the white to see if I can get deeper colors. I have not seen any negatives to dropping the white down. Really have not seen much change over the past few months since I have backed off the white. Now I run the following

inflection points 800-1000-1300-1700-2000-2200
Percent at inflection points, ramps between.
DB, RB, V 0(DB 2)-80-100-100-80-0 (DB 2)
R, G, UV 0-60-90-90-60-0
W 0-40-70-70-40-0

I have notice that putting all colors at even which is 12k per apex that the growth for me is better. I've tried 14k per apex which is 75 white and 100 for the rest of the colors was less growth but more color. Just my experience. I've tried turning down red and green and white and same effect. So I guess I'll just keep running 12k 100% al colors at 52%. I've had these thing a 1 1/2 years now.

New guy on this Block so please be nice. I have a 36" tall tank 96" long and 24" wide, with 1.25 thick acrylic sides. I have 4 hydra 52 and 2 regular hydra's with the 50 degree lenses. my question is does anyone here have similar tall tank and if so what are your setting?

I have received the unit I got second hand but I can't add the director to my account as it is already registered.

Anyone know how to get around this?

Thanks @sonicboom

Also question about the ramp time

If I have sunset at say 5pm and ramp time of 3 hours, does this mean lights out would be at 8pm?

Okay sorry I have a few more questions.

Lunar cycle.

Why does it allow you to put a start and finish time if it then keeps it on.

For example

sunrise 8am
Sunset 5.30pm
Ramp 3hours

Then I have my lunar start at 8.30 and finish at 10.30pm.

But when I look at the light graph, it has my deep blue at 5% all the way from 8:30pm- 8am the next morning.

Am I missing something here?

You need to set it all the way to 0 if you want it all the way off after a certain time. The lunar function just adjust the intensity of the light based on moon phase.

So in essence I don't turn the lunar cycle on if I don't want it on all night?

No you can do both. I run lunar at 2% from 10p to 8a, all my night. If I wanted part of the night to be total dark every night I would add a point and bring the level to 0 at whatever time that would be.

the lunar cycle adjust the light intensity based on the moons phase, so a full moon will have the lights at 5%, from there it will go down every few days following the moons phase until you get a new moon which will have lights out for about 3 days, this will continue monthly. you want your lunar at 5% max of one of the blues, i use DB, and can tell when a full moon is coming because all my fish start getting frisky and chase each other, so far i have had cardinals, clowns, shrimp and watchmen gobies spawn

Hmm okay great. I will have a think about whether or not I want my tank always light or not. Well all but 3 days.

What do people set their cloud setting at?

I am setting up a 125g (72x18x22) which will be a macro display tank with some LPS and zoas/palys scattered around. I will have several gigantea that will need high light but they can be directly under the lights if necessary. No SPS.
So will 3 Hydra 26 HD's be enough for this tank? It has two braces dividing the tank into thirds.
I could save about $240 buying three non-HD 26's, but some of that savings would disappear buying a controller. So the HD's seem the better value, although I like my tank very white by most reefer's standards do I am a little concerned about AI switching two whites for blues in the HD.

Thoughts?

Radion XR15's are the only other options I am currently looking at. Won't spend the $$ for XR30 or Hydra 52 HD

You will probably have enough light "power" but have trouble distributing it. If you don't mind stacking stuff directly under the lights and having lots of shadows you may get by with it.
