AI Led

I will be installing my new AI modules tomorrow. It seems to be a pretty simple setup.

What do you need help with?

Actually, how others are programing there lights, clouds, off/on times, sunrise/sunsets etc. just looking for suggestions.

Anyone have any pics or reviews on their AI setups? There is quite a lack of info in the general forums about this lighting fixture. Most of the stuff out there is buried within the ridiculously long Solaris threads that are just god-awful to read. Either there simply aren't a lot of people who own an AI fixture, or those that own one are reluctant to comment...

I just got my modules today.

I am taking lots of pics and I will post a review once I play with all the features.

Right now its plugged into the RS232 port so I am not able to connect my PC to my GHL Profilux controller to play with the settings.

I will have a USB card tomorrow for my controller.

Or you could get the SMS module ;) has a secondary RS232 port :)

HAHA!!

You guys always have the coolest toys. :)

not unwilling to comment on my AI fixture the good and the bad or how I think it could be improved, but this is the GHL forum. So after i get my light set up with the GHL I will post my comments

I was going to get them for my system but Chris at Ai was very open and advised I would need 6 of them :( so it just was not cost justifyable sadly, so am using the Fauna Star Fire fixture with GHL dimming built in

I am planning a 100g tank upgrade (48x24x20) and I will need 4 more modules for a total of 6 modules. Yikes!

Ouch then my calculations were wrong as my system is 72 x 36 x 30!

I think they are great for small tanks but cost restrictive for the larger, but this is new technology and I am sure this will change in time.

They still offer the greatest value of all the LED system "worth" looking at for sure.

Here is a sneak peek at my new fixture. I had to cut off almost 8" of the rails to make it fit.

I have my hands full enough with distributing these two high demand lines ;)

The tank looks great

Talk to Pat about getting some greater colour in those corals though ;)

I will be at Pats tomorrow dropping your GHL parts off may see you there!

Cool!

What time are you going?

I already picked up the balling salts so I have the basics. I am pretty sure my corals will color up much better with this new light. The brightness different is ridiculous!

around 1pm along with well over due wife :(

I have a business meeting at 12pm in the market and then heading on over to the other side.

We can talk coral colour then ;)

I have been running a Profliux AI combo since the start of October and there are definitely some pros out there and as with everything there a few cons.

First the cost is a big deal. I am running 5 fixtures but was able to get them when they were 15% off so there was a substantial savings. I agree with Xenon that Chris @ AI and Greg @ Reef Geek were both a big help with what I needed and what was going to work for me.

I have an odd shaped tank, the thread is here.

I also have an open type of aquascape which helps in the application of the AI fixtures. I have "individual islands" which I use a single AI fixture to illuminate each area. I would say each fixture is probable seperated about 1 foot from one another but when looking at the tank it appears to have an even light spread. I was worried about having a spotlight type of effect.

If getting one of these fixtures you don't necessarily need a Profilux, as it comes with a controller, but I wouldn't want to have it without the Profilux. It gives you so much controllability and simulation that it is quite amazing. Lighting storms, clouds, moon phases, etc. It's pretty neat.

Now here is the only drawback I had with the LED fixture. You can control the Kelvin rating very easy and as Xenon says you can definitely get a very blue actinic color. It really makes the corals glow. When turning the whites to 100% intensity it gives it a pretty whitish yellow color. I don't know what Kelvin range I am in with everything at full intensity but it is a little too yellow for my liking. You can bring down the intensity of the whites but at the cost of the intensity of the lighting.

My fix around this was to supplement with T5s. I ended up adding 4 x 55w Fiji Purple bulbs and it gets me right where I want the appearance to be.

Growth with the lighting has been pretty good. Unfortunately at Christmas I had to break some stuff down due to Ich and I pulled the corals out to Hypo the tank. I will see how the AI and T5 combo works for growth.

Hope this helps. All in all I think these are great fixtures and along with the Profilux you can't go wrong.
