AI Prime Lightning Storm

Hey guys,

I just bought the AI Prime HD for my tank to start growing coral. I've been tweaking with the settings and I love it so far. I found the option to have the fixture simulate a lightning storm during the day. Cosmetically this is cool.. but is it just that? Will it just scare the crap out of my fish?

I have the same light and it's mostly for show. There has been a lot of debate as to if it's truly beneficial or not. I have run it before and it does scare my fish at all. I do like how the light seems to dim and brighten as if clouds are passing by. I don't run it all the time but it's fun to play with.

You said... "and it does scare my fish at all"

Do you mean it does NOT scare you fish at all ??

I have seen this setting... how does it work?? You set it and then the light will randomly do lightning storms during the day? Do you have to stand there for 3 hours to catch one? How many storms will it do?? One a day? Seventeen a day?

There is a setting which allows you to set times which the lightning storm will occur. Plus you can adjust the probability (I'm assuming that the AI can decide whether or not it does happen to avoid consistency) and you can adjust the intensity of the storm (frequency of the lightning flashes)

I guess since I have tank raised fish, they likely have not seen any lightning storms... har.

How big is your tank?

Yes I meant does NOT scare my fish

We have 4 AI lights over three different tanks and we use the Director to control them. We USED to have the regional weather programmed to our favorite scuba diving destinations and to replicate the natural weather patterns of the reefs we are creating in these little glass boxes. All was going great until we were awakened at 3:30am thinking that our local SWAT team got the wrong address, had breached the front door and were heaving silent flash grenades into the living room. All because there was a thunderstorm on a tiny atoll in the South Pacific.
So...I don't really care if the lightning scared the fish. It scared the bejeebies out of ME!

I have a prime over my tank and run the storm mode for an hour in the afternoon. My impression is that the fish will adapt to the lightning and become less sensitive to other lighting outside of the aquarium.

My fish seem more tolerant of me coming up to the tank to feed and turning a room light on or off doesn't cause the fish to panic like they used to do.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think I may run the feature for an hour everyday. It's cool to watch, but I don't think my shrimp like it
