Aiptasia and freshwater

Hi guys! How long will aiptasia survive in freshwater? Ive been fighting a losing battle with aiptasia for the better part of a year and im ready to just redo the tank. Its a 180g FOWLR with a couple softies and over a thousand aiptasia. Ive tried pretty much everything and nothing seemed to work so i think im gonna take out the livestock and change the tank to freshwater for a bit. Hopefully itll kill off the aiptasia and get the ones in the sump and piping. i am aware the LR will cease to be LR and at this point, i dont really care. Anyone tried this or have any better ideas? Thanks in advance!

Never tried it, but it should work. I wish I could do that with my 180g. I have lots of majanos and tons of aiptasia, but I have wall to wall sps & lps, so I'd need a different solution. Even my laser is to slow and somewhat ineffective.

I think i wouldnt mind dealing with this problem as much if it meant id have wall to sps & lps and a high output laser haha!

Aptasia eating file fish, Acreichthys tomentosus. I had one that ate everyone of the aptasia.

Would go with a acreichthys, peps, or berghia but the problem with the tank is the single inhabitant is not very kind to shrimp and fish. Plus if i was to remove it and add the nem eaters, they would only control the growth only until i add the eel back.

My brother had the same problem so we bought 3 berghia, bred them, threw 40 in his tank and sold the rest. Aiptasia were gone in about 2 months and we even made some profit from seeling the berghia.
