Aiptasia FREE

PErsonally, I see them come and go multiple times a year. They come in with specimens, bloom a bit, and go away. Keeping pep shrimp or a matted filefish might be good. They can really ruin an aiptasia's day.

Good question. I haven't seen any in my system for the last 5 years. So I feel pretty confident they are gone. But who knows haha they are pretty damned resilient.

I had a polyp show up on a rock which I quickly removed from the tank. I kept the rock in a bucket with no water in it for a month. The bucket was in my garage in the summer time when temps got up to about 120F. After the month, I filled the bucket with water and followed the directions on some treatment (I forget which one). It indicated I should leave it soak for a week. I left it in the garage for another month. After the two months period was up, I cooked it in rodi again for another month. Spare skimmer, flow, the works.

I put it back in the tank.

After about 2 weeks... Same damn apstasia shows up. That was 2 years ago. I've got the rock in a bucket in my garage. I'm going to do it all over again at the 5 year mark to see if the bastard comes back. I'm pretty sure this is how the zombie apocalypse starts. That stuff has to be undead.

So, yeah... I'm hoping 5 years is the key.

Had one show up in my tank last week. Added a pep yesterday and was gone this morning. I'm hoping he will deal with anything else that shows up.

Matted file fish had rather eat mysis or pellet, but if you feed flake, he doesn't like that, and will get hungry enough to eat the eyelashes off aiptasias he finds. The problem is he may eat the eyelashes off other similar things, I strongly suspect. He's known to be not uniformly safe with corals, and I'd think things of like structure might be in danger. Mine is a perfect citizen with damsels and euphyllia corals.
