Aiptasia quarantine

Hi all,

My buddy purchased a nice acan colony yesterday and I noticed that there were two dead polyps on the back of the piece. I wasn't alarmed but today I noticed a little aiptasia. Darn culprit.

I have some joe's juice and I was planning on putting the piece in a tupperware container and launching the assault. How long should I leave the acan colony in the tupperware container?

So the acan colony is in a tupperware container inside a separate QT tank? If in QT, be sure it has appropriate lighting. I'd leave the acans in for at least 2-3 weeks. I've found that aiptasia that I've killed with Aiptasia-X tend to come back after 2 weeks (they're cockroaches!).

ok sounds good. I have a nano with some high T-5 lighting that should be fully cycled. I could try to rehab it in there.

If I use lemon juice/joe's juice/vinegar in the container, will the nem release its seeds into the container and in essence, all over the acans?

The key is fully coating the aiptasia with the juice so that it doesn't get the chance to release the spores/seeds. I've been successful in that regard (they don't multiply on me). However, they often come back in the same spot. I've even used a lighter to burn the spot the aiptasia was after using Aiptasia-X. But they still came back!

thanks for the advice aleonn. I just had a brilliant idea. Since the aiptasia is on a dead piece of the colony, can I just chisel off the piece of coral?
