Aiptasia

so i flipped my light on a second ago for no aparent reason and noticed this odd looking spore growing out of the skelital base of one of my star polyps. it kind of had bright ornage tenticles.....

the light caused it to retract back into the structure of the coral though..... could this be aiptasia?

a pic would be good, try googleing aiptasia and look at the images to see what you can see..

i can't take a picture of something that retracts when light is present......

i guess i can try, but no promises

aiptasia ive had have been bold as brass showing themselves at every opertunity, posing for the camera lol. IMO it might not be but without pics its kinda hard to help, maybe someone with a bit more experience might chirp in...

that fact and the bright orange tentacles makes me believe it is not aptaisa
OP--can you take a picture with the tank lights off but use a flash

thats a good idea, but don't know how well it will work. I have to wait till atleast 2 hours after sundown, as theres too much natural light in bedroom, where the tank is.

Oh no...not again with the lawn gnomes and wreaths!!! If it moves the way you suggest, it's probably a bad anemone, whether it's an aiptasia or majano, get rid of it. It'll sting your coral.

tried getting a pic and the damn thing is so small it un focus's my zoom. will attempt in another 2 hours
