I want to place my Chiller into the attick.

With it being in the stand it heats up the whole place in a matter of hours. Yesterday I came home and it was 87F in my condo but the tank was at a steady 80... I had to kick on the AC asap!!

Is it a good idea to put the chiller into the attick? Will it run more and not be as efficient since the attick is not airconditioned? There is not way fo rme to place this thing outside since this is a condo and I can't drill throught the brick...

Thank you,

BK

Vent the air to the outside with a drier vent. If thats not possible you can put it in the attic but when its 90+ you might have problems with it keeping up.Unless you over sized the chiller in the first place. If it's 90 outside it'll be 120+ in the attic.

I don't thing the chillers are designed to run in that high of ambient air across the condenser. It would be better if you could exhaust the heat with a fan or put the chiller out side under cover. It will fail when you need it most if you put it in the attic unless the attic is properly ventilated.

I wish I could put it outside somehow but there is no way.

Jason: I'm thinking about some kind of vent going through that wall into the attick and out the holes on the side. What do you think?

No its definetly not design perms. But it would work if it is big enough. If it just sized for the tank then not gonna happen. You could change it over to a water cooled unit. But that would be pricy.

I think it will kill the unit since it would have to run a lot more... I have to find a way to vent this thing outside.

we could do something like that .... or maybe there in your closet then see about doing something to relieve the attic ...

I guess that means more holes!! lol

Keep in mind that any air exhausted from your home MUST be replenished from some source. That source is outside air infiltrating into your home. When that outside air happens to be 100 degrees, are you really doing yourself any favors?

Essentially.....yes.

Personally, I would run my A/C and live with the bill. While a chiller MAY reduce evaporation a small bit it does nothing to remove what humidity is created by the evaporation that does occur. While it's doing that, it's costing you money to run. I'd rather spend that money conditioning the air in the house. At least I'd have a better comfort level too.

I'm with everyone else. I must have misunderstood on the phone earlier but first off 80* is fine for the tank but I keep my house at 68* in the summer so I'm not sure why your house was even 87* in the first place. I mean I know you're crazy...but...

Honestly, I'm trying to figure out why you're even running a chiller. Are they 400's? I had 2- 250w MH plus 4x-110 vho's and I also run my return in sump and I set my AC Jr. to kick heater on at 79.5 and if it get too hot you can kick off heater, kick off lights, etc...I had temp sensing fans that go faster when temp goes up.
72* which is room temp will keep your tank fine. Even 75* it will be fine. What do you normally keep your condo at?

Last year I had to keep it at 80 because of the ex. Now it will be around 75... I got the chiller last summer because the tank was constantly overheating and the fans I had were LOUD...

I like the chiller but it does give off a lot of heat when it's doing it's job...

Before you guys start telling me that I need fans... I have them over the sump and over the tank...

get another fan

one like this

If your plan is to keep the condo at 75°, I agree you should be fine on your temp with the right type of fans. I don't know your lighting, but I was running 2 - 400, and a 250 over my 180 last summer and hardly ever went above 80°. and the temp it the house sat on 75ish

i have 2 400 watt mh and mine doesnt get over 80 either , and i still need to get some fans for it , box fan is in place for now though
