air plants above a reef aquarium

I am working on a lagoon style tank with a rock outcropping that extends above the water surface 6-10" ... I would love to mount some air plants on the structure ... has anyone done this or seen any successful setups with it?

thanks.

Sounds cool!

I've seen it with fresh water tanks but not SW. Off the top of my head, one problem could be salt creep. But it sounds like they'd be pretty high above the water.

If you do decide to do it, please post pics. I'd really like to see how it looks!

Thanks for the reply ... my one concern was salt also, but, I mount them where I can give them a good soaking once a week it would seem they would do fine?

I have air plants hanging very near one of my tanks, the only issue is that they dry out a little faster, but if you mist them regularly they should be fine :)

do you have any pictures of the setup? do you mist with ro/di water?

minor update on this topic ... I finally have the tank moved over with the new rock work ... I still need to work on the setup, but, we are heading in the right direction at least :)

No pictures at this point ... I am scrambling to get the system stable and functional before I leave town for work .. once I get back, I should have more time to work on pictures and the layout more ...

You sound like a perfectionist! You can post quick pics at any time in the build. Basic phone pics are fine. Have you arranged the rocks in the tank? I'd love to see how they protrude out the top. A pic of that would give us an idea where you're headed. It's great for record-keeping, and fun to look back to old pics in the process.
