AJ_Tsin's 47g Shallow Rimless Rebuild

Hey AJ , I have a question about lighting for you. I'm setting up a 46"+18"+12" tank atm. How are you finding the 8 bulb on a shallow tank like yours? I can get a 8 bulb unit for a good price, so wanted to see what you think. I'll be keeping LPS and SPS corals mainly.

It's great, it is a bit bright for LPS and Zoas etc. without raising it quite a bit. I currently have it hanging about 18 inches above the system, and its great for SPS. With only 46" x 18" you could probably get away with a 6 bulb 3' unit. 8 is nice though as you can get more color combos on the ATI... This build is 30 x 30, so the almost square 8 Bulb 24" ATI has perfect coverage.

In other news...

Finally got an Apex unit installed and running. Currently monitoring PH, Temp, and ORP. I will eventually install a conductivity probe as well. The 8 Slot Powerbar really helped to clean up the basement wire nest. Its much cleaner and functional. I love this thing, probably the best piece of aquarium equipment I have ever purchased.

Thanks AJ, the supplier doesn't sell a 6 bulb unfortunately so it's either a 8 or a 4. The tank will have a glass top on it. Do you think if I put say 3 or 4 antic tubes in it to reduce par a bit, would that work?

If you have the option of raising and lowering it you will have no issues.

If you want ideas on how to do that you can check out my thread. I just made one for a really heavy ATI 8x54 watt fixture. It works great and looks pretty clean.

How about a new FTS :)

Soon.

In meantime. I picked up a couple new frags last night. Reef Raft Pink Floyd, $500 Efflo and ORA Hawkins. Managed to get a few quick shots under 2x Blue + before heading out for the evening.

Couldn't get a shot of the Efflo in focus but here is Pink Floyd and Hawkins

RR Pink Floyd (Frag was taken from bottom of colony so the corallite structure is very stretched out should become a bit more dense under my light and flow)

ORA Hawkins

Also took a few shots of some other newbies colouring up.

RR Avengers is encrusting relatively quickly and the polyps are starting to get some red.

Jawdropper also colouring up nicely and encrusting quickly. Polyps are quickly becoming blue.

RR Multicolor Matrix... still colouring up not much "multicolour" happening here yet.

Nice pickups AJ:thumbsup:. Did the Efflo really cost you $500?

Thanks. No that's just the name. But people always ask that. Apparently the original colony was sold for $500 years ago and people started dubbing it the $500 Efflo as a result.

Sick collection!

haha, I'm not even going to ask what the jawdropper cost you! Such a cool piece!!!

Thanks guys! Will be taking a new FTS sometime in the next couple days. I picked up a couple more frags at a frag meet this weekend. I am definitely running out of space here.

Managed to get: A sweet Vivid's Rainbow Delight, a crazy green piece called Reef Raft Green Plazma, Tyree's Mr Pacman, and a little frag of RR Ultra Rainbow Rasta Zoas.
