Algae Scrubber Basics

Alright I've had my tank and scrubber up and running for 2 months now. I started the scrubber after the cycle. So the tank is 3 months old scrubber is 2 months old. I went to do my first cleaning and this is my algae growth. I don't have algae in the tank so it's doing its job well. My question is ... is this algae appropriate. It's not hair more like slime. I have 4 660 leds and one rb on each sides running at about 500ma. It's dimmable so I can ramp up to 700ma if needed. The s teen is 4 inches by 6 inches. The bio load in the tank is very low. I have been over feeding to feed the scrubber but not 1.5 cubes like I designed it to handle. The photo period was 12 hours. I dropped that to 8 hours today. What should I change or do differently.

Is it best to start the algae turf scrubber after the cycle has completed and I have started to feed the first fish

That doesn't look overly slimy to me, I would say it looks pretty good for 2 months on a low bioload. You can let that grow 10-14 days

I didn't want to wait for the parts and building of the scrubber before cycling. Might as well cycle while working on the scrubber.

@hkgar

Thanks pal, I will try to source that. That seller does not ship to India though. How many 20 watts do I need?

:(

Why not pick out what you want online, buy it and have it shipped to a U.S. based fellow reefer then have them mail it to you?

No sock or other mechanical filter is needed because the periphyton on your established rocks will do the food particle removal for you; it will grow very thick especially on the bottom of the rocks. And you'll have more food particles to feed the corals. And the periphyton will consume nutrients too, and feed your animals.

If you want un-naturally clear water with no particles, maybe for a LFS display, then socks work well but

Hi all!
My scrubber is running since 4-5 weeks. I cleaned it twice. These pics are my second cleaning 2 weeks after the first.
I feed a lot (arround 5 -6 cubes a day). Screen is 9-1/2 x 11" (more than 11 but there is no light passed 11"). Loghts: one 20 W hydroponic led light and one 30W.
I removed the algae with a plastic scraper but I left some algae on the mesh. I passed it under tap water, I hope it's ok.
I think my scrubber is doing well but I would like your opinion :)
