The tank I got came with the algae sweeping magnet. It has always been on the wall of the tank and has some coralline algae growing on it to make it blend in with the background. It is a quality magnet and I've seen similar ones for $40. I think that it might be scratching the acrylic surface.
I chose to buy a new one from the 'Big Box LFS' for $12. It was snazzy looking, but turned out to be a worthless POS that did not even hold on to the tank wall, never mind doing it's job. It sank to the bottom several times during the sweeping and I had to reach way in there to reattach it. . . .
So, do I get a new one for $40?
Or do I soak its working face in bleach in order to refresh its sweeping surface?
Or do I apply some material to "retread" it? -What is the material of choice?
I have a hunch that my cheapness is causing me to split hairs but $40 for a magnet that I already have prompts me to write to the group for advise.
Thanks,
Tom
