algaecides? coralline?

Why in the world would you want to put algaecides in your tank????

I'd imagine you're having an algae problem? Go to the root of the problem, find out what's causing it, throw some hermit crabs in if you don't have any. Water quality is going to be your main concern, excess nutrients will cause algae to grow. So, even if you zap it all with your chemical concoction it will simply release all the nutrients back into the water column and cause another MAJOR outbreak when the algaecide has run it's course.

Find the cause of the problem. Don't put a bandaid on it. FIX IT!

No, I do not have an algae problem.

I asked if algaecide will kill coralline algae, and this is the question i need answered.
Its for a study

Coralline is algae and if the algaecide kills one type of algae it will certainly kill coralline. Copper sulfate is a great algaecide and will kill far more than algae in a reef tank. Avoid using additives, of any type, like the plague.

Thanks :)

Ok, so heres whats going on, im having a green coralline problem, its not slime, not hair, its hard like a rock cant scrape off with a blade green coralline. Its driving me nuts, its all over my back glass and the sides. I scraped some of it off but its too much for me to handle, it really needs a strong hand.
The tank has no inverts, its a fish only system with a snowflake eel, a young niger trigger and a few damsels.
I was going to buy marine algaefix but instead i purchased Marc Weiiss Algae magic. It says its not an algaecide so im not sure now if this will even help with this coralline problem?
It says its copper free and uses oxygen? as a way to eliminate algae.
I scraped off alot about a month ago but it all came back. I havent scraped lately because i got sick and couldnt do it, so now that im well again i tried to tackle it with the kent pro scraper metal blade and after a half hour i became exhausted and had to stop. This stuff is hard like a rock! its horrible
Do you think this algae magic stuff will work?

I doubt it'll work. Are you even sure its coralline? I've seen some green algae on glass that's hard and not what I'd consider coralline. But then I have seen green coralline too.

I don't know for sure but I don't think coralline and "normal" algae are very much related. My suggestion would be to keep on top of cleaning your glass. Do it on a regular basis ten minutes a week maybe so that you don't ever have an accumulation that takes so long to scrape.

Sure thing Sal. Coralline comes in a variety of colors other than pinks and purples. Greens, yellows and red are all in its inventory. Usually aquacultured, farm raised ;) , rock will show these alternate colors as they tend to come from shallow culture pools where sunlight is more intense. Unfortunately, they usually revert to the purple/pink shades over time in one's tank.

I'd way prefer scraping over any algaecide. It may take more work but your LR will thank you for it.
