Algaefix Marine Dosing in progress

DLANDINO

D.L. Heritage Rings
As some may know, since the hurricane and subsequent power loss of 9.5 days, I was hit with a HA problem in my tank. I have attempted every trick in the book to get rid of the problem to to avail. After reading a long thread in the RC chemistry forum on the API product Algaefix marine and its benefits I have decided to give it a shot. I added my first dose of a little over 3ml, the appropriate amo0hnt for my tank's water volume, yesterday. I have also taken pictures of my algae for a before and after comparison which I will post when I update this thread with my findings. I am hopeful that this magic bullet is exactly that, magical. If it works as well for me as it did for the folks experimenting with it in the chemistry forum I would certainly add it as a tool in my reef tool box here on out. Some specifics on dosing.

you add 1ml for every 10 gallons of tank water. You must factor out your rock, sand and coral weight to get an accurate water volume.

You should suspend the use of carbon and gfo for the dosing period according to RHF

You dose very three days and on or about the 5th dose you should begin to see results.

The active ingredient in this product is an herbacide.

Good results found with my testing

Good results found with my testing

Sounds like you have a very well documented plan. I can tell you with experience using several different kinds of algae it works very well. I have tested in several different tanks from softies all the way up to sps corals. Had several different types of other inverts (two diff. types of shrimp, several species of crabs, diff. species of snails). no lose of anything .... no lose of color either. I tested it over a two month period in each tank. I had five separate tanks in the test. I would recommend this, but let's see what the results are from another local CT source.

I have used it successfully on two occasions in the past, with no side effects. I hope things go as well for you!

does anyone know if this would also wipe out display macros? i am getting hair algae on one of my gorgonians and would like a fix but dont wont to wipe out my display macros.

well I hope you get the best results possible. I think I will not be Chemically treating the Tiny amount I see. my last attempt at something managed to take out MORE than I wanted...
I hope it works out best for you buddy... :)

Thanks for the words of support. I am hoping for good results from this product so that I can finally put this hurricane behind me.

Second dose administered today and all of the algae patches are turning white and falling off of the rocks. I'm impressed.

I know I know, I am taking pics as the days progress but the transfer wire from camera to pc is broken. I'll figure it out and eventually get the pics up.

Vile weeds! Almost makes me want to put a hammer into the glass sometimes. Been fighting bryopsis, but took a huge stab at it this weekend and all is gone for now. Let us know how you make out- nice to have more ammo in the arsenal!

Good experiment Dave. I never really looked into Algaefix. Do you have any other algae (bryopsis, bubble, etc) that you can also keep track of to see if this is effective on that as well?

Dave, I'm so happy that it's working for you and hopefully this means you aren't breaking down the tank! Text me tomorrow, I'll be at the school of medicine tomorrow visiting my wife with the little guy; we should grab a burrito off the carts.
