Algaefix Marine Dosing in progress

I wouldn't hold out then. This stuff is working like a charm. I am shocked that it is not more widely used and touted. My algae today is about 80% gone and I am only on my third dose. I also had a few fronds of bryopsis that is melting away so it works on that as well.
Algaecides get bad raps on the forums. The minute anyone asks abouth there use they are browbeaten into submission with the usuals such as,"attack the cause not the symptom" "more water changes" "break your tank down and start over". I have used it in fw systems and in my pond with great results but being so new at reef keeping and with so many unknowns its sort of spooky to try it! I will be doing it though as I bought a bottle yesterday:lolspin: Im not too sure what I have is hair algae,my stuff is shorter, much darker green and grows in thick tufts, its still soft like ha but more like moss seen growing on rocks in the woods.

Good luck with your dosing and I hope it works for you. I tell people all the time in this hobby that what works for one may not work for another and that you have to take some reasonable chances in this game to find your way to a successful reef. Keep us posted!

Im on my 2nd dose as of yesterday, there may be a small amount of affect. I am seeing more of it loose in the water column and some patches of whiting tips. I did a water change today and syphoned some off but it still needed pulled off with my fingers.

Progress!

I think I'm gonna stop the dosing. I'm on dose 3 and the only thing dying are my feather dusters and cocoworm.the coco started looking "sticky" a few days after dosing started and for the past few days I have noticed all the tiny hitcher dusters don't seem to come out much and when they do its just for a tiny amount of time. The coco used to be out all the time and was quite a beauty but now it just peeks out and is back in after a few moments. I'm gonna install gac to clear it out and stop dosing for awhile. If they snap back I can only assume it was the af.

Following along because I've got the same stuff you describe in one of my tanks. I don't think it's HA but I'm not sure what it is or what to do about it, if anything.

Sounds like a type of turf algae (different than HA). If its green, it's probably the chlorophyta type (there are lots of different types). If it is, check the AF bottle, it might be one type of algae the AF doesn't treat. I've never used AF, so I'm not sure off the top of my head if it treats turf or not. GL

Looking at pics of turf algaes and I just cant id it as that. Turf is mat like this stuff grows in tufts. at first glance it seems like ha but mine is very dark green and plush like cotton. If it would stay short it is actually attractive.lol

I believe that this caused my tank to crash. I have since rebuilt. That said, there was algae because of an unidentifiable PO4 problem in the tank. So, between the bio-cide in Algaefix and the po4 it spiraled out of control and all was lost. Just my 2 cents. Others may have had better results.

I've got 2 patches of hair algae and since then have been using gfo. It's only on a couple spots of the lr and seems to be slowing down since using the gfo.
