AlgaeFix Marine to control Hair Algae

Please reread. I was warning the poster above not to dose every day because it can do harm to livestock and what resulted in my own tank when a dosing problem occurred and it dosed every day. I don't blame algaefix for my losses or even my RKE because I could have double-checked. I think algaefix is a good product and is one of the few that does what it says that it does without unwanted consequences.

It's a little confusing for an old guy like me:eek2:

After the third treatment 80% of what I had is gone....I ran skimmer, carbon, GFO and UV. I haven't had any losses that I can see..Cleaner shrimp, pair of coral banded and cuc. I noticed my before pics didn't show up so I work on that to show the before and after a few doses. I may consider vodka or a mix of vodka and vinegar..I did that in my 90 and went to nopox and nitrates stayed at 20 so I must have been doing something wrong?

Great thread. So many success stories. I'm wondering whether those who've used it successfully over past 5 years, have any negative results to report?

Thanks,

Mike

I just finished a run with Algaefix marine to treat hair algae.
After the first dose i noticed a few micro stars dying, no change in algae
Second dose, all the micro stars were floating around the tank dying, my fish ate them as they floated by. Algae looked like it was dying off, I pulled it off the rocks which it pulled off easily.
Then the hair algae continued to grow
Added another dose, now my snails are missing. Algae seems the same.
Another dose and the algae pulled off again, but was still there and green.
Snails are dead, accept my nassuris snails, I guess because they were in the sand. My conch's are dead
Corals are fine, and the fish are fine
Algae is now more than ever
I performed my weekly 20% water changes while dosing with algae fix, and still ran my skimmer and carbon. I followed the directions properly, maybe even under dosing a little, but with the death of the micro stars and my snails I was not going to increase the dosage
My large brittle star is unharmed
Conclusion, this stuff is garbage and will kill some life forms, total waste of time

Thank you capn. If you don't mind, how did you determine this 3 year period? I have a half used bottle that is approximately 4 years old and I can't find anything on my bottle that gives me a shelf life/expiration. I also tried calling the help line listed on the bottle but no one seems to be home. Thanks again.

I googled it:D
I would think you could still use it if you have kept the bottled sealed and out of the heat(sun)
Plus there are no instructions to refrigerate after use

Has anyone ever discovered if AlgaeFix will work actually work on eradicating bubble algae? My overflow box has to be cleaned out once a month. It forms and molds around the interior edges and slows the flow to the sump. Last week it was over six cups! I have a few other spots in the display with it was well. I have tried Emerald crabs, peroxide, foxface, tangs, manual removal and these are not working. Run GAC & GFO and all water levels are in parameters. This is just a pest that needs to go.

TIA

What are your current levels of nitrates and phosphates

It's been several two months since I stop using AlgaFix and my GHA never return. Only side effect from using this product is your macro algae in your sump gets thin out until it dies. But I am cool with that so I no longer have s refugium:)

I just wanted to pop in to say that while this works on many types of GHA, it is not effective against Derbesia. I even took a bit out of the tank, and let it soak in 200ml tank water/20ml algaefix for a few days, and it was unscathed.

I've read almost this entire thread. Seems mostly legit except for a few. For the ones that have had negative impact to their tanks, any thought to the product being a bad batch?
