Hey guys so much like evan ( quicksilver) i have had a calupera out break in my 29 gal sps tank. Now i keep GREAT water conditions and skim heavily and also have alot of flow but the calupera is slowy winning... so i am in need of some help. Up here in ND the pet shops dont carry much but your everyday yellow tangs and clowns. however all the yellow tangs are HUGE so i wont add them for a quick fix. My question is the lfs owner is a friend of mine and he said i could buy a tang and return it after the calupera is gone but all they have in that are smaller sized are a naso tang a and unicorn tangs. SHould i just order a foxface online or should i get the naso????? Again this will only be in my tank for a little bit to help me get a jump start on the calupera.

Well, I think you know the answer you'll get on putting a tang in there once Tang P.D. shows up, and I'd have to support them. Even temporarily, the tank is way too small, they need lots of swimming room. Maybe try something like a LMB (lawnmower blenny).
Also, consider to attack the algae problem from another angle....what might be causing it?
You mention the water quality is good, which isn't the only cause of growth.
Answer these questions and we'll help you get this under control:
1. Do you use RO/DI or Tap Water?
2. Do you check phosphates?
3. Do you use Phos-Ban or another type of Phosphate removing chemical? (ps- A Phos-Ban reactor will cost you $80 setup with everything, and it will help ALOT
4. What type of lighting are you using?
5. How old are the bulbs?
6. How long are the lights on each day?

i am using tek t-5 lights with individual reflectors
just switched bulbs out last week
ligths are on for about 11hours
I would like to clarify that this isnt like a hair algea out break i used have alot of calupera in my aquaclear refugium and now all of a sudden in appeard in my tank. I have no other algea problems and all sps including like my oregon tort and steve elias stag ect. have great color and growth. Im simply just tired of removing it by hand as i dont have a uv sterilizer i think the spores are just constantly replanting themselves. Again its not hair algea or cyano from bad water quality tank it 6 years old now, and its barebottom so detrius isnt an issue. I change 8 gal of water weekly and its only a 29. I understand i wouldnt want a tang, would a small rabbit fish be a better suited choice???? Again it would only be for a month and then my lfs can take him and sell him to someone with a BIG tank. thanx guys and let me know i dont want this to turn into a debate but like i have seen it worked in quicksilvers tank fine as he made sure he bought a small one. just looking for advice, thanx for your help so far though.

i have decided ill try the rabbitfish route instead of tang just because rabbitfish although just as big seem to be less docile swimming wise... any one frosee a problem with this.... and again i know this wont "solve" the issue but as i have removed all the calupera from the refugium and now i am skimmer VERY wet along with this natural herbivore this should help to rid my system of the pest, then i can find a nice big home for him in a month or so. Let me know if you think i shouldnt, as i would like to get a consensus on this. I have found a nice orange spotted rabbitfish that is 3 " and i believe there is enough demand for this certain species that when ( and i know they grow fast) it gets a little bigger ill be able to find a home. thanx for your time
