Alkalinity?

What is the preferred Alkalinity for Tridacnids? Is it any different than that of a happy reef? As i understand it that along with light are the most important factors of a clam. Santa brought me a 400w MH fixture with 2 50/50compacts on either side, to add to my 175W. He aslo brought me a nice 4" squamosa who just poped right out as soon as he got home and seems to be doing fine.

They like they alk just the same as a normal reef. Between 10-12 or 2.8-3.2 . Keeping it stable is a little more important in my opinion though. Instability seems to be more of an issue for clams. I just throw that in because some people have a hard time keeping alk that high. Cameron

Yes thanks for the help, I panicked when i got the little guy, but before I even logged back on I found my answer, which when I found it I was more than upset--it seems my problem is not keeping it that high. It's getting it down that low. It now sets at 5.0 meq/l. What am I to do now? I have started to add dKH superbuffer, but I guess theres no need for that. I would still like to raise my ph a bit. Can i do that without raiseing my Akl?--whats the best way to keep a constant AKL?

Would 5meq/l, not be over 13dkh. If so, thats fine, for sure not low and almost to high.

The best way to maintain a steady, high alkalinity, is with a reactor. Mine increased from 7dkh to around 12-13dkh with the reactors addition & stays there. I seldom even measure it anymore.

meq/l multiplied by 2.8=dkh
dkh divided by 2.8=meq/l
5meq/l * 2.8=14 dkh
