Hello all
I am trying to obtain everyone' experiences on all these tank situations and the cause and effect list that follows the situations. I would like this to be as encompassing as possible
For example
What happens if it is to high , to low , ranked on how fast of a swing is acceptable / how many units increase or decrease do you feel comfy with per day
And where you keep yours at
All this with in regard to sps
Replacement minerals
ALK- normal ' 8-12' -has the narrowest therapeutic window- I TRY not do raise more than 0.5 kh per day. I like mine around 7.25 . To low what happens to coral? To high what happens to sps ? I understand that slow stable changes are better but what is the abs cut off and what are the consequences ie stn , rtn, brown, pale etc- my experience is fast swing rtn, slower stn. I would assume the same if increased to high ?
Calc -normal 350-450- n I know to high or to low can impeed sps growth I try to rock around 420 and have swung this way more and would say has less
Terrible results - but don't know much else
Mag - 1250-1350 normal - allows calc and "ALK" to bing proper inside of coral and not outside coral . I think of it as a cofactor, or as carbidopa in the drug Sinemet (carbidopa / L-dopa), carbidopa block the enzyme that is responsible for converting L-dopa into dopamine (its active form) . However carbidopa cannot cross blood brain barrier so no active drug is wasted bc L-dopa can cross BBB and it will becomes active in the brain
Something like that with sps -
Trace elements..... Eeek?
Nitrate - normal <1
Most people shoot for zero. I run at zero, but what happens as it increases? What is manageable long term? In my exp, it browns coral out and slows growth? Does it cause stn rtn? And if so what level!
Phos-normal 0-0.03
I know this will inhibit growth by blocking ca-carb formation and most rock out o-0.03 (most reefers say you need some <o.o3 or run a "system" ) but when do u expeience adverse effects
And so if phos increases it browns then stn rtn?
I know they are many many situations that are interwoven in these situations and I know there is no right answers but THANK YOU to everyone that takes time to answer any of the 'questions' with what they know
Plz only answer with regard to sps , preferably acro but beggars can't be choosers
Pardon the typing first post from a iPad
