In the Nano forum there's a thread labeled "Our First Nano". They have 2 Maroon Clowns along with a Chromis and a Cardinal in a 12 gallon!

The only other comments on this persons thread is commenting the corals. I am the only one who has voiced my concern about about their stock, and when they replied they said nothing concerning the Maroons.

Please. Comment on their thread just to voice your concern. From what they've posted they arn't taking me seriously. Maybe if some of you will voice your concern too, they'll listen. Please, do it for the Maroon's.

You voiced your concern so leave it at that. Seriously, this is the hobby. People will make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. Voicing your concern is fine but asking everyone to run over to the other forum and tell this person what to do isn't very cool imo.

They just posted that they do plan on upgrading to a 100 gallon soon.

Yes, people do make mistakes, and people will in the end do what they want. But I would rather people voice their opinion and try to educate them than learn when the clowns end up killing the other 2 fish, then tear each other to shreds.

Incidents like that is part of the reason some people leave the hobby. So, I would rather we try to educate them instead of just letting them do whatever, which in the end just hurts them, and the fish.

This person ended up posting that they forgot to state the fact that they are going to upgrade after another person voiced their concern. But IF they weren't upgrading, and nobody was to say anything about it, then when they were to post here wondering why the clowns killed everything and ripped each other to shreds I would feel bad. At least if it were to happen, I TRIED to do something about it.

Well I don't agree. This is a forum for people to share information. You've voiced your opinion. Leave it at that. Nobody wants to come here to get lectured - and they won't come here if that's what they get.

While a good aquarist will do their research first, not everyone starts out as an enthusiastic hobbyist, too. It sounds like in this case they are good and know how important upgrading to keep their stock means.

However there are those out there who will sell you practically a goldfish bowl and tell you its ok for Nemo to live in it if you do water changes all the time. Sometimes I don't think you can always completely fault the person keeping the fish. The best thing to do is to support their education in the hobby and to get them past the tough newbie stage of it.

It is good you voiced your concern and now we can rest easy that a fine maroon couple will have a nice big tank soon :)

I have two maroons, one eel, and a firefish in a 20g long since my tank broke two months back. Its all about making it work and knowing the limits of the fish. The eel is still small, the maroons are happy for some reason in the confined space. They have begun to pre-spawn in the tank so they are happy there.

I am not saying that what I am doing is right but I know the limits of what is going on.

That being said, 12 gallons is not enough for maroons.
