All you SPS keepers with vortechs

I ran two mp40's on reef quest for the longest time and had great PE. Then I started using nutrient transport and I loved what it did for my tank, kept debris suspended until it went down the overflow. For the last few weeks, I've been running it on constant at 75% in a 90 gallon. To me, this seems the best for my tank. I'd like to run it at 90%, but my sand blows everywhere.

Nice to see you finally made the switch.

I know you will like them as much as I do on mine. Just need one more"¦Damn hobby"¦.:bounce3::bounce3:

haha thanks kevin, im currently running NTM at 100% but im probably going to play with the different modes over the next few days. seems like the concensus is reef crest or tidal swell

I currently just have one and will be getting another one, I switch it up several times a day, in the morning I set it up one way, when I get home from work change it. I most like the Reef Crest, but I have played with the short pulse to creat waves, but recently have been playing with the long pulse and I think I like that better.

I really think depending on your aquascaping and placement of your corals, its best to play around with the different settings and see what works best for your setup. All of them are pretty good settings, I tend not to use the "Green" steady mode that much. But I think you will like Reef Crest Mode and Long Pulse.

Guys,

I've noticed that if you put your pumps on anti-sync and use Lagoon mode, the slave pump(s) would end up running at 30-50% thrust most of the time.

If you look at the graphs on the user manual, during Reef Crest mode, the power of either pumps alternates from 10-100% from time to time, however during Lagoon mode, the master pump(s) goes from 50%-100%, which means the slave pump(s) on anti-sync would only go from to a maximum of 50% thrust.

I actually wonder if that's indeed the case so I end up spending half an hour watching the LED indicators on the drivers and based on my observation I confirmed that is indeed the case. The slave pump(s) never go higher than 50% thrust.

That's the reason I'm not running Lagoon mode on my two MP10wES, but Reef Crest mode.

I've got 2 Mp40's on oposing sides at each end of a 250g marineland DD and there on reefcrest at 100% in sync mode all the time till night mode. Sync mode in this way adds to the Gyre effect to the entire tank volume. Thats where its at.

I have a gen2 and a gen1 that's been upgraded multiple times. The pulse modes never seem to work right with the two units, so I just keep it on reef crest (yellow). I've been happy with this.

I ran one MP40 on Reef Crest at 100% on my 90 for 2 years. Recently added another and run them at 65% on Reef Crest anti sync and the flow is perfect. The one thing about the vortechs that I dont care for is that when they are running above 95% they get a extremely audible hum and also why the go from below 40% to above 90% the gearing up noise is a nuisance. Still I have never seen a pump that creates a stronger more diverse flow.

I have a mp10w es and a mp20 in a 40 breeder. Both are on reefcrest mode. Just like the other users have said, I tried the other modes, but always came back to RC. It's funny we buy these expensive pumps for all the extra features, but only seem to use one or two of the modes.

4o br w/ 2mp 10 wes in ntm... i found the best PE on this mode and my pre filter is always dirtier in this mode...run on 90%-75%... but i do switch up often to reef crest mode just so my SPS get a different flow once in a while..also good PE in RC mode too..

I wanted to use this setting, but as soon as I saw a wave starting to form I had to shut it off.

I have an MP10wES on a 40 breeder. I'm using either reef crest mode or tidal swell mode at 100%...I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm thinking of adding a second MP10 to replace my Ocean's Motion.

I've never had a wave forming...I believe you are thinking of the long pulse mode. The pink one I'm talking about is on the ES models. It goes random then it does a hard cycle to get everythign suspended then goes back to random.

do you guys think an mp10 and an mp40 would be enough for a 75? i will also have a return thats about 700ish gph

i always say go big or go home, so i put 2 mp40's on my 75, which may be a bit on the overkill side, but i think mp10 and mp40 would be fine

if i didnt already have an mp10 i would go for the mp40 x2 but im shutting my nano down for the 75 would like to keep my mp10 in use.
