All you SPS keepers with vortechs

I've never had a wave forming...I believe you are thinking of the long pulse mode. The pink one I'm talking about is on the ES models. It goes random then it does a hard cycle to get everythign suspended then goes back to random.

It was a small wave, but a wave none the less. The NTM starts with a small wave as it does in short pulse mode then does a "ramp up" to move the debris to the overflow and skimmer.

Here is the description of NTM from the manual:
Phase one, or the wave phase, consists of the pumps pulsing at an expanding frequency so as to achieve a resonant wave in any aquarium at some point in the pulse cycle. If you have already tuned a wave form into your EcoSMART driver by using the auto-tune function in Short Pulse Mode, this saved resonant wave will automatically be used during phase one of the this mode. The pulsing serves to raise debris and detritus from the bottom of the tank and behind the rock work, where it will then be migrated out from the water column and into your overflow during phase two.
Phase two, or the nutrient transport phase, begins a flushing cycle to export nutrients and debris in the water column which can then be captured by your protein skimmer or other filtration equipment, effectively removing it from the aquarium and increasing the overall health of your tank

I checked my MP10 again and I'm using Reef Crest Mode @ 100%. If my next tank is acrylic I might try a wave mode, but I'm too scared to do any wave in a glass tank for an extended amount of time.

On my 120 I'm using two MP40W's on reefcrest none synced, at about 70%. I don't have them synced because I want to, but becaus for some reason my communication doesn't work well with my older units.

That being said everything seems to be working well and I and my corals are happy.:rollface::bounce3:

Vortechs forever!

Here's some photos of night time PE, some 3 hours after all lights went out, using Reef Crest mode on 2x MP10wES running on anti-sync.

I would also add that reefcrest is a bit more gentle on any corals that may be in the direct path of the MP40. Tried Lagoon but it just blasted flesh off my corals.

Nice pics of your corals at night.

I have a simlar size tank and wanted to know if you were satisfied with your MP10s? I'm debating on 2 mp10's but then I hear people say you go with 2 mp40's.

Thanks

Thanks.

It really depends on your tank's size. Anything under 40-42" I'd say go with 2x MP10's, for larger tanks, you'll need to go with MP40's.

This is because when I'm running the 2x MP10 on anti-sync, I observed (from the debris in water) that the water current from either pump is able to reach the middle of the tank, but then after that it gets weaker, and not quite able to make the full 40" length with noticable water movement.

When you've large colonies of corals, it'll block more water and making it harder for water to reach the other end, therefore I think 40-42" width is the limit for 2x MP10's.
