Allelopathy

I do know it's possible to have different anemone species together in the same tank but how worried should I be about allelopathy in an anemone only tank?

Looking to pick up S. Haddoni, S. Gig, H. Mag, H. Malu and possibly a BTA. Should I not mix so many? I am running an 82G tank with a 40G sump/refugium.

You will possibly have some problems with all those. I'm having issues with my mags and Haddoni.

When I see my Haddoni deflate for no reason at all and the next day he's fine and then a mag is deflating, I'm pretty sure there's some toxin's being released in the water column. Plus, there are different sub-species of Magnifica. They can actually have negative allelopathy with their own kind. I'm pretty sure of it.

They are competing in the aquarium for position, flow, light, etc. IMHO...

What would you suggest I do? Do you think you'll have any long term effects from mixing your Haddoni & Mags? Do you run carbon?

I'm still learning, but I would definitely run Carbon. I personally love Carbon.

Honestly though, I would ask Minh, D-Nak, Taylor, etc...some of these guys who have been running systems with multiply Nems for years. They can give you better info than I can.

I'm more of a trial and error guy. I like to learn by reading established facts or if there is insufficient evidence, I will test theories myself and draw my own conclusions. I'm constantly observing my Mag's and trying different things to see how they respond. I guess is the medical field that has made me like this. :reading:

I have 4 species in the same DT, and now that I added a Gigantea, chemical warfare is always on my mind.
I do have the benefit of working from home, and I normally sit 4 feet away from the tank so I keep a watchful eye for any signs.

I also run GFO and GAC and a good skimmer 24/7.

One thing that makes me wonder though is whether chemical signatures from different species can be transported by our clownfishes. My percula pair are like honey bees, they swim from one anemone to the next, but lately they spend most of their time between my H.Magnifica and the new Gigantea.

I know clowns can absorb the toxins, but....I also wonder if it can be passed on to another host nem and negatively affect it. Anybody had this happen?

Thanks guys, I will add Carbon & GFO to my buy list before I start this venture then. Hopefully some more people stop in and give some input on the topic :).
