Am I feeding my fish the right amt/frequency?

I have a blue hippotang, yellow tang, 2 clownfish and assorted crabs/shrimp.

I feed them a mixture of:

-flake food
-frozen myosis
-omega one garlic marine flakes
-cyclopleeze from instant ocean

Is this the right mixture of food? Is it correct that I should be feeding the fish ever other day?

Yep, seems good.Try some Sprulina brine shrimp for the tangs, they will benefit from the spirulina.

Sprinula brine would be a good addition to your food list. You should feed once everyday if you can. The fangs should have a clip of nori or dried seaweed available to graze on throughout the day. Other than that you should be good.

IMHO, you should feed a minimum of once a day. I typically feed multiple times a day, but sometimes I can only get one feeding in.

I agree with multiple feedings per day. I was feeding once a day but my tangs started looking a little thin. I give them a smaller feeding early in the day (what they can consume in 30 seconds) and a heavier one in the evening (takes them a minute and a half to get most of it). The NLS pellets are good too.

I feed twice daily always. When feasible, I add a third feeding as well. All food is gone within a minute.

I switched to 2 or 3 feedings a day and that made a huge difference for the crew. Sometimes a "feeding" is actually a couple of sub 30 second rounds of food. I don't know if that's any better or worse, but it cuts down on wasted food that ends up being tomorrow's protein skimmer gunk.

I try a mix of several items, and end up focusing more on the better sellers.

Everyone comes to the top of the tank and gets in line when I show up with food. It's pretty funny.

I used to feed every other day but have switched to daily. Somedays a few times a day. I noticed my fish are much happier and color is much better. I try to feed different foods daily too. I try to put nori in for my tangs but I think I have the only hippo and yellow tangs in the world that won't touch the stuff. Switched to veggie pellets and mixed the pellets. Everyone is happy!

yes, agree with several smaller feedings if you can...also, try roggers or rods...I like that you can wrap it in mesh and clip to the glass...allows the fish to graze naturally all day long...

Hi, I have three tangs in my 120 setup and they are two blue (hippo) tangs and an orange shoulder tang along with a large angel and a butterfly. I feed in morning when lights are turned on and once again before lights go out. Twice a day has been working good for me, but every tank is different.

I feed once a day. Would do more, but my schedule doesn't allow it.

Used to feed a bunch of different stuff, but have been feeding primarily PE Mysis Shrimp and Cyclo for the last few years. I used to use pellets, flake, and 'other brands' frozen mysis, brine, etc. I have found that the PE is much easier on the system and provides ample nutrition for my fish.

One testament is that I had a Lyretail Anthias actually morph from a Female to a Male in my tank. I have kept them before and never had that happen. The colors he developed are simply amazing and wouldn't have even been close if the nutritional content of the food wasn't up to par. The Orange Females keep their color much closer to nature as well. As for the Tangs, I feed them PE too. I'll also feed them caulerapa from the sump from time to time. Check him out in my Album. (wish I did a time elapse on him!) Also have (2) Blue Hippos. Got them at 1/2", now about 4"+. Raised on PE.

Anyway, good luck.
