Am I happy or what?

Heh...

Sorry... just getting kinda excited... figured I'd stop in an introduce myself, cause, well, being as new as I am with saltwater I'll probably be asking alot of questions...

Just got my filter hooked up last night by the guy who builds the filters... aren't I lucky, he works with my wife and lives practically down the block :)

So, now that I'm starting my cycle I'm just in the "waiting" game... test... wait... test... wait... (and read alot...)

Anyways... ummm... yeah... so... hi.

I sent in my CMAS membership application this morning, so I will be a member... I guess I'm just a "pre-member" or something for now... :)

hmm... gotta make me a fancy signature soon...

Welcome.......

If you need any help with anything or advice let me know. I am right here in Plainfield.

Jim

Excellent! Thanks... I'm currently going to be doing a FO tank (per the recomendation of the guy who's helping me out... he actually recommended that I come here and join the CMAS...)

I figure going simple is better... I can always add on in the future... I've got a good filter that I shouldn't need to replace for a long time... the only thing I can ever see needing is different lighting, but that's only if I ever plan on something other than fish... and the only thing non-fish like on my list of eventual tank mates is a starfish... according to my wife... she liked the chocolate chip starfish... so that has to be on my list for "eventual" buys...

Jeesh Jim....That's not a welcome...

That's a welcome! :)

There's a number of pretty serious reefers right in our neck of the woods that will be glad to help out.

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome from another newbie, I am over in Batavia! You will love it here, don't forget to periodically check the "New to the Hobby" forum. It answers a lot of questions, and you can learn ahead of time from others' mistakes/misfortunes.

The initial cycling time seemed like eternity to me as I sat and watched water, but as you said, it is a good time to read and research.

Again, welcome.

I'm begining to see that... great to know... now I just have to wait for the cycle....

Get out while your financial life is still intact......

In a year you'll find your self in alleys, pale dirty face sunken in, having the shakes, repeating over and over "help me out, just one more upgrade and I'll be set, just one more!"

RUN!
RUN!
RUN!

Welcome :frog:

FO??

The over/under is 3 months before you're shopping for equipment to go reef. I'll take the under. :)

I'll take some of that action too.

Save yourself trouble, get the closed loop now.

Rod, are reading this, call this guy for an appointment, then you can discuss the "weekly coral frag program with the automatic debit plan."

Just kidding to eveyone that just got excited, I made that up.

Financial life? Should I have one of those? :)

Lets see... now only am I starting this, but I dabble in photography (dang expensive as is) and I... well... I race lawnmowers...

I'm not kidding... I really do... :)

Back on topic... so yeah, went out looking at fish again today... scaring my wife with $100 fish... :)

I'm sure I'll be fine... I'm doing this very slowly... not rushing anything... I think that's the correct way to do this...

All right you two... nope... not going reef at least for a year or so... I showed my wife some pricing on lights once... and after I got her up off the floor she threatened my man hood in many scary ways... so I cannot do anything like that...

I'm not even 100% positive I 'd like a reef tank... I haven't really seen any corals that thrill me... I'm more of a fish kinda guy... :)

Double my bet :)

Alright... I want in on this then also... I'm taking the over... :)

Now, as long as you're online... tell me how to bring my salinity down... I'm up to 1.025...

I thought it was something to so with temp, so I turned mine up from 76 to 77.5....

1.025 is ok, I keep mine around 1.026 or 1.027. I've even heard recommendations up to 1.03. Are you using an refractometer? If not, start a thread, asking if someone has one to sell or go to ebay......welcome to the endless sucking sound :)

If you want to raise salinity then add salt
If you want to lower salinity add fresh water

Hey hey... stop trying to get me to spend money... I don't even have any fish yet! :)

So the swing arm thing isn't good then? wish I would have known that before buying one... grrrr....

Don't feel bad, I bought two, still have them. You're going to go through the process like the rest of us.

The pet store will recommend you buy something. Then you will come here and we'll tell you why it useless, then we'll tell you what you should get and where to go for the second mortgage.

There's lots of reefers in your area. Get some phone #'s from here and share a cup of coffee/beer with someone before you purchase anything else, just to review your plan in order to same money and TIME. That's what I wish I would of done in the beginning. I'm sending you my number now.

Hmmm maybe I'll ask BEFORE I buy something... :)

That sounds like a good idea... I'm still exploring places where I'm thinking about buying my fish... there's 3 places near me that I'm thinking about and have explored... but I'm going to start asking for everyone elses opinions soon... when the time comes...

I couldn't help but laugh when I read this. . . after Being away from reefin for about 8 years I set up a 30 gal "fish only" tank last fall ,cause the wife said we weren't spending a ton of money on this again. . . well a few months later the 30 is a mini reef and I have a new 90 gal RR, metal halides, killer custom stand and canopy, and all the toys to go with it. The best part is we went the other day to get 1 fish, and she came home with 60 lbs more live rock, 2 colonies of Zoo's and 4 fish

I guess I'll take the under.
