This afternoon I was at a LFS on the IL side, not fairview, looking for a way to try to get my bulk heads off and the store owner was talking to a customer that was wanting to set up a new sw tank. He was telling her that she would need LR and LS, and told her how many pounds and the $$. She said that was outragous when she could get it for free. She stated that she and her husband were going to FL in a couple of weeks to go snorkleing, and they could bring back all that they could carry. The store owner stood there and said "That sound like a pretty good plan, bring me back some" Now I was under the impression that you shouldn't use sand or rock from trips like that. One unless you get miles off shore you are dealing with polluted seas, shipping lanes and such. That the sand and rock you bring home and throw in your tank Could protencally kill your whole system. Also, isn't this illegal, Isn't the areas protected, so you don't have 1000's of people running down trying to save a few buck, and totally unsetting the balance of the few reefs that are there. I thought he should of have told her the truth, Instead of encouageing her. I am right about the contaminated LR and LS aren't I , Over the last few years I throw away probly 200 lbs of sand and rock that well meaning friends have brought back from FL. and mexico vacations.
