Took a few pics at a local pow wow and wanted to share...

would also love to get some critique and feedback as I am still a newb photographer :confused:

Wow, great subject matter! Love the colors. Good job stopping the motion of all the fine feathers, fur and fabric. The pics look a bit soft to me, as though they could be sharper.
 
That's what I was thinking. Not sure if it's the lens or what but it seems like they are in focus but for some reason still soft. The colors are nice but the overall exposure is a little gloomy, looks like they were taken on a cloudy day. Other than that, I like the overall composition, good work.
 
Thanks, I agree. Is it something I am doing wrong or could there be something wrong with my camera/lense?
(I am using a Nikon D300 with 18-200 VR lense)
 
The exif info is showing a shutterspeed of 1/3200, so it's not a hand shake issue. Plus the VR lens should reduce any of that. Perhaps the higher iso (800) contributes to the softer look.

Whatever the cause I would suggest sharpening more during post processing.
