now what does dosing amino acids do for sps acropora in general? Now should the skimmer be on or off ? will the skimmer take the amino acid out of the water? Just wondering since these little bottles are so expensive and would hate to just waste them . Any intel is appreciated
Roger

so you don't think the skimmer will take any properties out of the water I was thinking maybe dosing it at night shutting down the skimmer till morning but not sure so I posted.

What u do is I don't turn it off because it does take a little amino acids out but i still don't turn it off. In my tank the sps get a lot f polyp extension and after a while of dosing it the colors look better IMO.

Ive noticed some nice increases in growth and color since I started aminos about a month ago. My routine is to broadcast dose the tank after shutting off the skimmer and reactors, and let it run for a few hours like that before restarting. The skimmer will definitely strip the aminos from the water, so its a waste of money if you keep the skimmee on IMO.

yeah i figured let the tank run without the skimmer or reactors so the amino's saturate the water and the corals can take as much as possible from the dose then clear out after 8 hours via skimmer

I doubt a skimmer is going to completely pull out the AA if you're dosing daily. I've been dosing with the skimmer on 24/7 for a month or two now. Absolutely seeing better polyp extension and I think colors are also improving.

Is everyone here dosing Zeovit amino? Do you really notice difference within a month? I'm thinking of trying it too but the price is ridiculous. :eek2:

Ive definitely noticed a difference, though I cant say if its from the AA or from not running skimmer/reactors as much and hence leaving more in the water column for the corals.

No Zeo, but UNLS due to aggressive skimming, gfo, and gac use.

At any rate, $12 for 30mL of the brightwell treats a lot of gallons, so not that expensive for my tank.

Thanks for the information, 12$ for 30ml of brightwell? 43$ for 250ml zeovit so isn't the zeovit cheaper? Are you dosing 1ml per 25gal? Definitely going to try some. :)

I dose the elos amino acids and it 35 bucks a bottle but heard its he best stuff, I also dose pro skimmer along with it as Elos suggested I do. When you mix the 2 together it has less affect from skimming. I have seen soo much better colors since dosing with the first few days I noticed a difference.

Wow, this sounds crazy. For everyone dosing AA, are you guys dosing daily? If you guys stop dosing does the color start fading and become less vibrant? This sounds kind of like steroids for SPS corals and once you get off it, do you lose all your work? :lolspin:

From my understanding, Amino Acids bind undesirable nutrients in the water into a form that the skimmer can move more efficiently. I'm not sure that the corals actually absorb them or not.

Thats a great question! The simple facts are that there are levels of amino acids in waters in the ocean. Levels are substantial in healthy coral reef areas.
Some people see dramatic results(nutrient poor systems) and others see nothing and feel it's a total waste of money.
It's much like people. A vitamin deficient person may see a radical difference taking a B vitamin. Maybe he's a smoker. Maybe his body just uses up more vitamin B then alot of people. OR all ove the above plus a poor diet!
Another person may see no difference at all.......
IF YOU RUN A ULNS THEN YOU PROBABLY WILL SEE A DIFFERENCE! I use Salifert Coralline Amino's and it works very well. Brightwell's also works very well.
Turn your skimmer off before dosing and let the corals absorb it. Night time is a good time to dose it. You can dose it along with food as well.
Knowing your system is key! dosing too much and you will get algae. That's a indicator of too much.

I dose Zeo AA daily. The bottle is expensive, but keep in mind it should last you several months. Recommended doseage on bottle states 1 drop per 25 gallons of water.
