Amino acids .vs RottiFeast & OysterFeast

I've read that in a study of coral bleaching they where able to bring back the color of montipora with Rotifers so Xenon may be on to somthing. My question is where are you buying the Rotifeast from I live in your provinces and dont know anybody that sells that product. There is also a product that is pure zooxanthellae I forget what it is called. Also Bulk reef supply just put out a new video on amino acids and food it worth a watch its on youtube right here

I've never brought back a coral from being bleached but where or what region did you order your corals from coral bleaching is thought to happen from higher tempture.

I am located in Mississauga and we sell Reef Nutrition in our store.

These corals came from Bali. They shipped us colonies that were too large and that caused them to bleach more than the smaller colonies.

I am using RottiFeast (rotifers) but you say the particle size is too big? Have you used it before? It's nearly liquid and I can assure you, the particle size is VERY small.

Sorry, my comment was more geared towards the oyster feast, I'm not sure on the particle size of rotifeast.

I've seen this before and even bought a large Bali colony but its skim peeled off a few days later after I got it and it was not bleached at all. I've heard of horror stories from Tonga shipments. What are you going to do for your opening?

Our Bali shipments are usually fine. It was just a perfect storm of issues that caused this shipment to bleach.

I have also heard horror stories from Fiji shipments. We are expecting a shipment from Fiji on Tuesday (fingers crossed). :spin1:

I am not sure what you mean about what we are going to do for our opening. ???

Xtra is mix of aa and trace elements.

Makes coral tissue thicker. And therefore deeper color.

Makes coral tissue thicker? I'd love to know the science behind that claim... Most of the claims associated with KZ products are laughable, but that one is downright hilarious.

Have you noticed any nitrate increase from your ozone use ? Do you carbon dose

Why would my nitrates be increased by the use of ozone?

I am getting zero detectable nitrates using Salifert. I really wanna see some pink while looking through the side of the vial but nothing.

Yes I do carbon dose.

IMO if you keep the new corals as is without any new supplementation, there is a better chance they will recover and gain colors back, being that the ones already there are healthy.
By introducing new foods or other higher N containing ones, you can impact the low nutrient system and actualy delay progress.
I know it sucks but patience and stability here will be the best option along with time.
Good luck regardless

+1000. just keep your parameters strait and you will be fine.

We actually won't put it on our shelves for sale unless we believe in the product. There is so much product out there that we have the luxury to do it.

then laugh instead of insulting me ... Im not KZ, Im posting my experience. you can simply not follow it.

it sends corals to SPS gym ;)

I do not think you can handle, or understand science for me to waste time on educating you.

PS. how does amino acids help coral tissue ? or better yet ... what is amino acid in your view ? pls let us know so we can have a laugh too.

PPS. your comments are specially dumb to be honest ! you are talking about something you have never tried ... so trust me, if anything is funny, its your comment and hate towards something u have NO experience with ... you could say KZ stuff are just no3 ... and it makes pale corals color up ... sure .. I wont argue with that, but calling my Experience funny, when you have none is just out right DUMB !

I didn't realize I was insulting you, I thought I was insulting KZ. So what you're saying is you don't have a shred of scientific evidence to support your claims. Also, I have a good amount of experience with dosing amino acids.

I guess I am dumb since I've never measured the coral tissue on my sps. Perhaps you would like to enlighten me as to how one goes about doing that.

Amino Acids are basically the building blocks of protein (protein broken down). That is why people who feed correctly don't need to use them. We already add them through the food we introduce to the tank.

Here is a good article that talks about amino acids you might like to read it.
http://www.coralscience.org/main/articles/nutrition-6/amino-acids
I've also read that Sps corals have a poor capture rate of Rotifers so unless you plan on feeding bottles and bottles of it I think the corals will starve. What is also interesting is the article places zooanthelia nutrition at 95% were as red sea put the number at 85% I believe. In any case it may not be cost feasible to achive recovery from bleaching. If you where growing the rotifers yourself that might be another story. How many colonies where effected?

thank you Darryl. [I was hoping Peter would reply to this and say AAs are also "snake oil" lol]

now if I dont feed enough .... or do ALOT more water changes ... or strip my water by other means ... AAs will help as you explained .... right ?

if so, will you explain the science behind it to Peter, maybe he will get off my tail lol

I have absolutely no interest in educating you. sorry.

you can go ahead and insult KZ as much as u want, it not mine lol ... but dont judge mine, and MANY others observation and experience.... if you dont know what "makes coral tissue thicker" means, then I can not help.

maybe you can read Darryl's reply with regards to AAs ... maybe he would be interested in telling you the science behind it ... I really doubt you having any sort of experience.

you seem to love to follow me, and make insulting statements like above, questioning my observations [in a rude and sarcastic way] ... which only makes u look worse! anyone, with ANY experience with keeping corals, knows that we try to duplicate the conditions in the ocean ... to make them look like they do in the ocean, so when we speak about dosing ALK, SALT, CA++, Trace elements, AMino Acids, different particle foods and so on, we are only refering to "KEEPING NSW levels" NOT elevated levels. .... if your corals are colored up, Amino acids dosing will make them BROWN. if you have algae, AA dosing will fuel your algae, if you have pale corals, as result of loss of AAs ... dosing AA will help coral re-build its Tissue.
Amino acids, are just Ammonia basically, so if unused ... it will just turn into no3.

or maybe ure just a good troll :) in which case, well done lol

How about we stop insulting each other/ arguing and get back to the topic of this thread?
Which would be better- AAs or the combination of oyster feast and rotifeast for bleached corals?
As fellow reefers, we should just help each other...
