20 gallon- day 5 for Regal Tang. Yesterday and today did 50% water chges- still showing about .25 mg/l- hardly budges. What should I do?? Day 1,2,3, were okay. Thanks in advance.

You really don't want any Ammonia in the tank. Don't do too many water changes or the fish will be stressed. What kind of filtration are you running on the QT?

Aquaclear trickle filter with an aged sponge. I put denitrate in yesterday- as the pkg. said it helps eliminate ammonia. If I don't do water changes- I don't know what to do!

Kent Marine do "Ammo Detox" which i used when my QT spiked with ammonia (with a Regal Tang in it) didnt seem to do the fish any harm.

Since this is a QT, and your not treating the fish for anything, it's best to remove the fish and place it in a a small container. Then clean out and replace all the water in the tank. Drip the fish back in and it should be fine. A lot times it can be a losing battle to get the ammonia in check in a QT once it reaches a certain point and it's better to just clean the tank out and start over with clean fresh water.

Also unless the tank was running before you shouldn't of had a big built up in ammonia unless you where feeding the fish to much.

My lfs said to add Prime to remove ammonia, also to squeeze some of the juices from the sponge in the filter in the reef into the QT. it's funny- I looked in my log book, and everything was fine until I cleaned the filer in the QT! Thank you for all ideas!
