Amoo's Nem Treatments

Ok time to get an update up about this guy. As mentioned previously the issues I have been having with this recent nem appear to be stemming from a laceration or stretching of the disc as can be seen in the image below:

Sometimes he retracts his tentacles on that side, but oftentimes they are extended like the rest of them. Basically the fight with this guy then entire time has been getting him to attach. Coffee mug, rock, sand, glass...etc. The best he has done is attach a small part of his foot like you can kind of see in the above picture. He's a fighter and I had to un-attach him one day when I looked in QT and he was hanging off the coffee mug by that little tiny area of his foot, twisted three times. Needless to say this has been an exercise in frustration.

I contacted Kevin at DD early last week (somewhere around day 12 of me having him) and explained the situation. I basically pointed him to my thread here, listed a lot of what I had tried and inquired if they have tried/experimented with any type of topicals to aid in the healing process. I mentioned that I would also appreciate an extension on the guarantee since this guys is so up and down.

Kevin got back to me and informed me that they haven't developed or heard of anything and basically a laceration is a death sentence in their experience. He informed me that they were willing to replace the Mag free of charge including shipping. One of the things he mentioned was that they received three on the same day, this one, my green and a third they hadn't released for sale yet. He offered me the third and I accepted (because who doesn't want multiple Nems in QT/Tx right....sigh. I didn't ask for pictures so I'll be surprised when it comes in, he informed me it should ship out this coming Monday so hopefully he arrives ready to roll on Tuesday.

Now back to this guy. It has basically been on PITA after another. I get him healthy, but am unable to place him into a DT so he starts to go down hill. I have tried 3 different powerheads, 2 different divider mesh sizes, 4 different lights (because we're reefers and like to eff with stuff just in case), a handful of different attachment ideas ranging from plastic mesh to rock and a lot in between. Basically here's how it goes everytime:

I get him to what I would consider a severity score of 3 which is usually a sign they are ready for DT. I stop medicating, try a different idea and two or three days later still no attachment and he's back to a 5/6. I give him a day or two of SMZ & TP and we repeat this cycle trying desperately to keep him alive and hoping he heals. He never gets better then a 3, never gets worse then a 5/6, we just constantly play this rubberband game.

I recently moved him out of one of my DT sumps because I noticed my Nems in the DT were starting to look a little ****ed (unsure if related but rather be safe) so I currently have him in a cycled QT with just a HOB filter, heater and a few PVC pieces with no powerhead. He's currently about a 6 again so we're on day 1 on SMZ & TP.

I will say that I'm glad DD was willing to just give me a "replacement" as I have probably spent about the cost of a new one on IO salt alone and that's not counting the time investment. Always a good experience with those people and it's part of the reason I order all of my livestock from there. On the down side the longer this cycle goes on the more and more I dread waking up everyday and seeing he's still barely chugging along and is waiting for his fresh water. Kind of sad when it starts to get to that point, but I'm not giving up on him, not yet anyways.

If this continues on I may try a topical steroid or some type of topical cream, Minh, you have any recommendations or ideas? Maybe even some SSD (Silver Sulfadiazine 1% Cream)? That crap seems to work on damn near everything as is.

I have to give you an A+ for effort!

This is just a shot in the dark, but have you tried adding any iodine to the qt as a treatment? I bring this up only because when I purchased a BTA from a very reputable fish store in Atlanta, they added iodine to the water just in case the foot received a small tear when removing it from the LR that it was attached to. I don't know if it would work in your situation or not.
