Amphiprion barberi

Whew, glad I backed off from trying to collect a pair of each species...I did not have enough room as it was :D

I was hoping for a unique clown discovered on a remote atoll. The renaming of an already know fish is not quite as fun.

Thanks for keeping us updated. It makes you wonder how many other variants might be considered different species based on DNA analysis.

But, on the otherhand, since they can all interbreed, what's the difference?

The sales price.

;>)

LOL. Well, LA has them in stock already. Probably too close to common tomato clowns to ask a high price. If they were as Phil suggested, they'd be $1000. The retailers know how nuts we are.

Technically, all the artificial hybrids we see in captivity can be given new species status. Doesn't have to be naturally occuring, though there is plenty of debate on that. I am sure some ichthyology graduate students are looking for dissertation projects. Hmmm...."Dear Important Fishery Person, I'd like to cross A. mccllochi with A. fuscocaudatus to see if they create a new species. Permits please. Love and kisses."
