Anyone know much about this clown fish?

I have been given the chance to get a pair and I want some advice before I pull the trigger.

I will have to move my snowflake from his 90g tank to a nano. Smaller fish always get the short end. ;)

I have been told the Gaster's natural host is a Mag. Is this true?

Thanks for chiming in

Cheers

I suggest going to rareclownfish.com and reading as much as you can. Ask questions over there and they will know the answers.

Are you sure they are gasters? Gasters are very rarely collected from what I have heard. Who is your source?

If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for them?

If you're getting real gasters that is very exciting! Congrats on a great find!

I look forward to seeing some pics.

Source is a LFS

Not sure on the price yet. They are supposed to get 3-4 pairs but they will not price them until they are held for 2 weeks. I will attempt to get pictures when they arrive and post them here. Last thing I want is to spend a premium amount and then find out they are not Gaster's.

If you have any info regarding prices please PM. I have yet to find a gaster pair online so I could use some assistance on prices.

Thanks for the heads up on the website. Research time!

Gasters are currently banned from collection in Mauritius by the government so double check before you buy.

The last "gasters" I saw come in where Allardi, my LFS owner was not happy with the distributor.
Take a lot of pictures and post them before you buy them.

Translated from German Wikipedia since I couldn't find one in english:
The Mauritius-anemone fish (Amphiprion chrysogaster) lives in the lagoons and coral reefs on the coast of Mauritius, possibly even in Réunion at depths 20-40 meters. Like all anemone fish, he lives in close symbiosis with several large Seeanemonenarten. As a host anemone , he accepts the bead-Anemone (Heteractis aurora), which Prachtanemone (Heteractis magnifica), the corkscrew anemone (macrodactyla doreensis), the Teppichanemone (Stichodactyla haddoni) and Mertens Anemone (Stichodactyla mertensii).

I know of a wholesaler who said he could get them,But like others have said collection isnt allowed,so I dont know how he can get them. But there is one guy/girl breeding them I do belive.

Great information thank you for posting this.

I am hopeful these are the real deal because the store owner asked if I would be interested in a Magnifica from the same person collecting the clowns. I will post pictures as soon as I can.

Oh, the collector is out of Africa. Not sure if previous gaster's sold in the US came from this collector or not. I doubt I will be able to track down this info. But, if anyone knows ...

Yeah buyer beware, please post pics so hopefully we can ID these and give it to ya straight. If it does work out I'm sure people will be begging you to breed these and pass along the offspring

Good translation! I´m German, so I should know, hey?

Teppichanemone = Carpet anemone

I had a pair of these in the past and they were pretty good tank mates although a bit protective of their anemone. Not as aggressive as a tomato or maroon, but somewhat like a mellow clarkii (at least my pair). They hosted in BTAs / RBTAs although the red base / white top magnificas that come fom the same area would be preferred (in my experience).

As mentioned above, these are hard to get and often confused, so do check them closely to determine whether or not they are what the store thinks.

Und Ihr geistlich Sohn ist immer noch leben vater albino clownfisch!!!

Yep, talked to my LFS, he said he sees "gasters" every week on the lists coming from Kenya.....they really Allardi

Yes, I personally think chrysogasters is endemic to Mauritius and neighbor Reunion island. SO they often mistaken as clarrkii or allardi

As said before, Chrysogasters are officially banned, however, if bred, there will be possibilities to offer them in the market very soon. I think Master breeder will have a try this time, and from him I might get some help, me too am planning to starting breeding them. Not bad idea at all, just some material and time needed.....
