Amphiprion mccullochi, the Mcc's have landed:D .

Just a quick update. The Mcc's have been with me for week now and so far they are all looking good. I have one very minor case of popeye, but it is getting better. Apart from that not even a hint of any serious diseases. Eating well and acting really relaxed, I have never seen such a calm group of clowns before. Two pairs have even shown signs of nest cleaning :D .

wow, those are by far the best pics Ive seen of this species, even better then the ones in the anemonefish books:) I never realized how beautiful they are! I love the bright white tail, against the black body, they are absolutely stunning fish! I have dibs on 2 of the offspring;)

Thanks Showjet, I would guess the pics you are talking about are the latest I uploaded. They are thanks to a friend (Ds04) who came over the take some decent pics, and I agree they are great shots.
They are fantastic clowns, you should see them in person:D , cruising around their tanks, or popping up to the front of the glass to see what I am up to:) .
Hopefully it wont take forever before I have tanks full of their cute offsprings. ;)

OK, I have held my questions long enough, can't stand it any more...

1) Did you collect these pairs from the deep or what?

2) What was the water temp?

3) What method did you use to collect?

4) What where they hosting?

5) System specfics that they are living in now?

:D LMAO:rollface: Sorry to keep you in suspense Jhardman:D . I just said I couldn't really answer questions originally because I had only had the Mcc's for a couple of days at the time of the original post and wasn't sure if I would be caught up with drama's over the first few weeks. At the moment it seems like they may settle in without issue so over the next couple of days I should have time to answer everyone's questions.I have answered some of your questions on my homepage already.

In real bad timing I am really rushed with a few things today but in the next couple of days I will sort out all the details and go over everything you have brought up. Sorry I couldn't sort it out now.

Wow very nice. Glad to see you were able to work the system to get these legally in an environmentally friendly way. I hope that we will be able to get a good strain of captive fish from these shortly so we don't have to travel half way around the world to just get a glimpse of them...

Thanks Bonsainut, I still can't believe I was able to go through the correct channels and go through 2 bureaucracy's and against another and still make it home with fish in tow. Hopefully with the 5 pairs I should be able to offer a genetically diverse offspring.

Sorry I have been delayed posting on here, a few issues have come up which have kept me very busy. I thought I might chuck a new pic on here while I sort my info.

This first pic I uploaded and added to the breeder's forum but for some reason did not add it over here.

This is a nice shiny new one:D .

Those Mcc's are so unique looking compared to some other clowns. Congratulations on obtaining so many pairs of them! I was thinking about traveling to Asia just to pick up a pair of those knowing I would probably never succeed. I notice in one of your pics the Mcc is hosting in a bta. Do you know if they host in other anemones such as....haddoni's? That would be sweet to have a pair of those hosting in my red carpet. Good luck with raising the fry's when the time comes and if you have a waiting list for them please add me! :D

ps. I would love to see more pics of these guys.

Sorry I am so slow to respond, it has been a bit crazy over here.

Isseym328, I didn't see any Mcc's hosting in anything except BTA, my dive buddy thought he saw some LTA in deeper water with some latz but this was far from the lagoon where the largest population of Mcc's were found. I am only guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised that like many other clowns that in captivity, the Mcc's would host in anems they usually don't associate with. I had a nice yellow haddoni I would have loved to try out on pair but thought placing them with anems from LH would be for the best.

I'm sorry to say today's update is not the happiest one. As I passed the 2 week critical period I thought I was through most of my problems but it seems I was wrong.... My worst problem a few days ago was that one male had a case of popeye. This male doesn't seem to be getting better, but he doesn't seem to be getting worse. He is eating fine and his breath rate is basically normal so I assume he should be fine with time.

Now for the bad news, a light blew on my QT system ( I kept 1 pair, the juvs, the butterflies and cardinals in a QT type system) and it went without light the day before yesterday. Yesterday when I replaced the light I found an unusual spot on both the male and female of the mature pair, the male looking much worse. This spot is similar to white spot but many time bigger, (I'm not sure of an ID yet) I will try and post a pic of it. It didn't seem too serious, their breath rate was not much higher then normal so I gave them a FW dip. This cleared up most of the spots but not all. The worrying thing was a couple of hours later when the male didn't show any interest in food. Today he picked at food but didn't really eat anything.

I am just about to remove the anems in this system and then lower the SG right down as if I am treating odinium and see how they react. If this doesn't get him back eating and clear up this spot I am not 100% sure about what steps to take next, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Now if things couldn't get any worse the female in my 10ft (the pair who have been most into nest cleaning) looks a bit funny. Over the last couple of days I have noticed what looks like a white blockage of some kind and am worried she might be 'egg bound'. I remember reading a thread about this a while ago with a very old clown but haven't been able to find it. If any one remembers this thread and knows where to find it, or know what is recommended for such a condition I would be very thankful.

Sorry about all the bad news , maybe tomorrow will bring a brighter day, Ryan.

I have just tracked down that thread about the egg bound female, my female looks similar to this fish http://reefcentral.com/forums/showt...e=25&highlight=25 year old clown&pagenumber=1 , mine doesn't seem sick though. She is eating fine and breathing normally and as this pair has been cleaning like crazy I'm not sure if she is egg bound or just preparing to spawn. I am not sure why she would lower her ovipositor for a days before spawning, but as their anems are shifting a little could this be delaying spawning and causing this?

If she is egg bound does anyone know what to treat her with, I found this thread to but as I don't suspect internal worms I'm not sure the treatment is relevant.

Ryan, you need to post a picture of her. The old OC had a very significant bulg in her belly just above the opvipositor, which is a pretty good indicator that something was wrong. So unless you are seeing something similar I would not worry too much.

Yes females can keep it down for days before doing anything about it.

BTW, I still strongly suspect internal parasite or virus in both those fish.

there really amazing. hope they make it thru.

yes i also would be interesed to hear about your collection trip. sounds like a fun adventure.

thanks for sharing.

Jhardman,
I will organise a pic soon. My fish does not have that bulge like the 25yr old clown, she looks like she just has a normal curved belly of a gravid female. It is hard to tell but I think it looks like the ovipositor has retracted a little today. I can't help thinking, if this isn't a blockage could she really be thinking about spawning.

Embryoguy,
once all these drama's are under control I will post about the collection trip, sorry to everyone about the delay.

I am happy to report that the pair with the mystery spot is much better today. The spot seems to be gone and the male who didn't eat yesterday had a munch this morning :). I have also had some good news in the anem department, one of the big anems in the 10ft tank split yesterday, so hopefully in the future I will have lots of LH anems.

Ryan
