Amphiprion percula "Onxy" (Onyx Percula Clown) Breeding Log!

Awesome job this round Matt. I lost my last batch, Kathy or anyone....Not sure on the pod species I have, but I had a hitchhiker on the tile when I moved to the rearing, was just under a quarter of an inch, had a 60-80 turn out and the next day they were gone...saw the pod and figured he must have had a good meal because I only counted 10 or 15 bodies....awesome job...just a warning on the larger pods if not getting all uneaten out...any thoughts...Carl

Greenwater + Copepod thread

Alrighty guys, here's all the info I can provide on the "experimental greenwater technique" that Batch VI is undergoing - http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=994478

Post your comments / questions to the linked thread above. As I may have mentioned, it wasn't really my intent to give this tank to the clowns, but clownfish larvae were deamed a priority over mandarins a couple months back...primarily for monetary reasons but also to get some experience under my belt. FWIW, I don't expect the clowns to be any worse for wear with this technique...it's really just an extension of greenwater techniques to add in copepods. So far, no deaths noted.

Nice!!! Told ya I know nothing...:) What I was thinking is has your numbers stayed up near 100. great job.

12-16-06 - it's 3.5 days for Batch VI, and this morning I had 5 dead bodies...rats - there goes the "perfect" streak ;) They got a little less than 1L each of T-Iso and Nannochloropsis this morning along with SS-Rotifers that had been enriching overnight...the rotifer population in the tank is pretty darn low, so I'm probably going to add some more, maybe L-Strain...

12-17-06 - Batch VII has been laid! - OK, so here's the catch...they were laid somewhere in the last 24 hours (betwen Saturday evening and Sunday evening). I'm suspecting they were today (Sunday) but I can't be sure...they just "look" fresh.

Anyway, with two larval tanks full Batch VII will be left to hatch and get eaten...with a scheduled hatching time of Saturday or Sunday next week, I'll likely be way too busy with Holiday Activities to handle the hatch anyway!

That's the news for now...Batch VI is doing well, all FAT. They got just over 1L of Nannochloropsis this evening. I may do some small Baby Brine Shrimp feedings starting tomorrow...

12-17-06, 11:20 pm - so we've basically closed out 5 days and there are still MANY larvae running around in Batch VI as I posted earlier. What I found interesting this evening is that ALL the larvae are not only FAT, but are already deep-bodied and orange. I found and removed 9 hydriod medusas in the larval tank...kinda wondering if these could've been responsible for the earlier deaths I found (again, that was only 5 larvae or so). Tomorrow will definitely be my starting point for brine nauplii which hatched out today and are in the fridge with a few drops of selcon to enrich.

Temp this evening was 83.4F, ammonia alert badge remains at "safe".

That and good feeding is all it takes to get my oceys starting meta at 5 days. Look for the headbands, I'll bet they are there, unless percs get them later than oceys.

Well, no headbands yet, but I did add a small amount of selcon "coated" BBS.

From what i can tell it looks like I have significantly fewer larvae today, yet I've only found one body on the bottom. wierd.
