has anyone tried taking the rocks out of the tank (the ones with the 'weed' and no corals of course) and putting them in ro water for some length of time to kill off the anastasia?

If she is anything like Rasputin you'll need to do more than that.

You would be better off drying the rock. Seeing your system first hand all you need to do is hit the large ones with Joe's juice and get 3-4 pepermint shrimp.

Hi unboundmind. People are giving you some shine because the beasties are called aiptasia - close to anastasia but no cigar.

I had luck getting rid of mine by killing the bigger ones with Aiptasia X I think it's called. You basically just drop some of this on the disk of the beast with a little syringe they provide. The just sort of melt away in a few minutes. Make sure to shut off all pumps and powerheads so that the water is still. You don't want this stuff getting on your other corals. I always use a turkey baster to carefully vacuum out the residue before turning the system back on. Then like fishaholic said, get yourself a couple of peppermint shrimp. They will eat any that are smaller than they are. My tank has been aiptasia-free since. Good luck.

Make sure you get real peppermints. There is another shrimp that looks like it that doesn't like aptasia. Hopefully you will get accurate advise from whoever you buy from.

Camel Shrimp is the peppermint look-a-like.

juvvie peps are better at aiptasia than the mature ones. And out of any 10 juvvies, about 5-6 are going to like aiptasia.

Aiptasia X is your best bet. Aiptasia are tough. I don't think a dunk in RO water is going to kill them. If you leave the rock in RO water for longer, it will kill everything else that is "live" on it -- including beneficial bacteria, which you don't want to do.

I had the worst out break ever. Nothing worked except the peps. I went through bottles of aiptasia-x. The aiptasia or (anastasia-x) ha ha JK works great for knocking the big ones down enough for the peps to be able to get em.

Russia circa 1917. The czar's family was shot by the Bolsheviks but there were rumors that daughter Anastasia may have survived. It's pretty fascinating but that's all I know right off.:reading:

oops - sorry Bifferwine. I was writing my post as you were so I didn't see it before mine went up.:spin2:You had the right date.
