And so it begins...the start of my 800g plywood upgrade

The apple of my eye, my helper and my future obsessed fish geek.
She asked me if she could help after school. Then went on to say "dadda, will you help me build a big tank when I have a house of my own...but not this big, maybe like half"? Lol, I grinned from ear to ear and said "of course, IT'd be my honor"

Probably because you failed to describe and illustrate the framing method you used for this tank (hint, hint).

You appear to have loaded them on RC as your image host. Always problems with RC for images.

Yes Dave I did. I can't figure out photobucket. I'm a moron tech wise.

Framing of the tank was nothing special. Bottom is 3/4 plywood. I placed the 1" back plywood to it and applied liberally Wood glue, then drilled 3" screws every 2". Did this with sides as well. The front is 2x4" bottom and sides with a 2x6" top. Next I put a 2x6"front eurobrace and 2x4" back brace. After the i install the glass there will be side eurobracing. Then I will cross brace a few sections. I'm still deciding if I will do exterior 2x4" ribbing. The back of the tank will sit almost against the wall of the house, so no exterior ribs needed there.

awesome!!!, love plywood tanks, until I get a house with a basement for a monster, im stuck with a 300 gallon glass. Keep the pics coming, I think a few of us are taking notes!

Yeah, I live in my townhome, and have a great spot for my tank, although Itd be better in ahouse where I could utilize the garage and get solar as well. But I'm impatient and my 325g that's currently in the spot where the new tank will go just isn't big enough:)

The transfer is going to be terrible. At least I can transfer fish and coral to my qt system prior to. But I'll need probably 10-15 people to move the current one out into the garage then bring in the new stand and tank right after. Atleast the transfer isn't livestock and such all at once.
Once new tank is in place I will plumb, aquascape with some new rock and my current coral covered rocks. Fish will be in the other qt system for at least a couple weeks just de stressing. I'd rather lose some corals than my fish tbh. These fish are worth way to much, have been with me for a bit, and are some tough fish financially to find and replace.

Sorry, until someone around me can show me how to upload from photobucket, the images will be like this :(

Get off the sofa and sit upright at your desk. Don't slouch, either. Keep your elbows off the table. You call this a book report? Look at the state of your shoes!

First few coats of blue max are on. One downside is that I guess no matter how many coats, it stays slightly transparent. But no matter after a few months coralline will engulf it anyway

And here they are. There is actually 4 of the MARS leds.
My baby xena(13months) she wanted to help, so I used her for size comparison. She's a but small for a rottie, but she super sweet.

I've actually finished all the BlueMax coats. About 8 or 9 worth. Now just time to wait and let it cure for a week or 2. Glass has been ordered and should be ready next week.
Unfortunately the company that was going to get my starfire had an issue with their supplier shutting down. So I called around for more quotes. To my dismay no one could either come close or wouldn't even attempt to deliver. So back I went with regular plate glass. The original guy gave me a break on price and delivery. So I opted for that(which saved me over 1200 for this)
