Anderson Family Reef - 1200 Gallon System

Closed loop layout early days!

Closed loop layout early days!

Amazing tank there dca, i've been digging through looking for some schematics of your closed loop but couldn't find anything. Could you possibly point me in the right direction? Very curious what your thoughts on the CL are now that it's been up and running... I hate the look of PHs and think that in a larger tank a CL is the best way to go, IF, done correctly...

One of the priorities for us is Electricity out of the water when ever possible. So the XP5000 external looks promising... I think we will start by picking out the skimmer, and then make everything else fit.
I do like the idea of redundancy by using the two 3000s.

I am working on a 3D to scale design of the build. I will post once I have the rough draft, because I want all the big tanks with experience out there to rip my design apart and improve it with their experiences.

I'd be happy to throw an eyeball or two on your design if you like! Funny thing is that there are many ways to skin the cat in this reefing game. I can provide you with my opinion and experience for you to consider...:lolspin:

How do you keep an eye on the intake for the CL? Obviously visually, but I did not know if a flow issue would cause a change in pressure to a pressure gauge and turn it off.

I just visually keep an eye on it. If the pressure drops from the closed loop returns then I can remove two or three rocks to access the intake screen...

This set up is absolutely sick. It took me 3 days but I read through every page and it is quite impressive! When my wife and I move into another house we will be making sure there is room for this style tank. I love the amount of movement you have in every video from all the livestock! its mesmerizing!! How do you remove the waste produced from all of those fish?!? I noticed the skimmer but I almost have to assume you are using other means of exportation of nutrients. are you having any PH issues with the calcium reactor and the demands that you have in your tank currently? Such a beautiful tank!

I will 100% take you up on that.
I plan to start a thread to allow all the pros to critique and make recommendations. I want to get advice from every angle, and then when we place the plan into action I will know I did it right.

It will be the tank Reef Central Built!

Thanks for taking the time to read through the thread! Good question! I have an oversized skimmer, filter socks that I change every few days, carbon and GFO all helping to keep the nutrients in check. No real PH issues to date with the undersized Ca reactor. I end up dosing once or twice a week to keep everything in check!

Thanks again for checking it out!

It will be my pleasure! I just chimed in on your thread so I will get your updates! I'll be able to look at your design even closer this week to provide some feedback.

OK... that will work as a frag pack.

You realize you are in the wrong section to be posting frag packs right?

You still have my address so I'll take those. Better yet I'll just drive down there and pick them up.

All seriousness... WOW.. that is an impressive list.
